Lots of good stuff there. To everyone on the coast, keep your eye on the weather. Most places seem to be having a lot of trouble making a good landfall prediction at this point.
That's one of the more interesting websites I've come across recently. Thanks for posting it.

Nu-uh! If it comes this way, I'm headed to pbwalker's house.

It occurred to me that if I had to, I'd go stay at Crossfire's == they have more guns than you do! (They have more guns than ANYBODY does.)
But....
Then I seemed to remember you've got a .50? So now I'm conflicted again...

Nope. No .50 in my safe. I'm not rich enough.

I'm just North of SAT and can offer the same (but with pets if needed...we're on an acre and have three dogs of our own, so that won't be an issue if you have an outdoor dog). Nothing fancy, but a place to lay your head and eat three hot meals. We have an RV at our place too, so we can likely accommodate 4 adults and 2 or 3 kids (in total) without it being uncomfortable.
Forum folks only as well...don't need any weirdos showing up.
ETA: If you do head this way, PLEASE bring some rain with you! We need it bad!!

Excellent! It's kind of strange to do things this way, but let's see if we can get more offers. Hopefully, nobody will need to take advantage of them; but it would be pretty neat if we could meet the needs of at least a few members in a crisis.
I was going to ask if anyone had opened up their homes for weary evacuees of hurricanes. I'm glad to see some of you did or still do.
God Bless You!

Hey! You are further north than we are. AND, you have more bedrooms.
So, if the "hurricane of the century", "zombie apocalypse", etc, comes - we are loading up all the guns and coming to YOUR house!

My wife and I can accommodate one couple in our guest room in DFW for a few days if anybody needs a place to evacuate to. Unfortunately, we cannot take pets (we'll be putting our own dog in the doggie hotel if this plays out)....but the PetSmart Pet Hotel is nearby and they are quite reasonable—cheaper than a hooman hotel. So if you need to bring a dog (or cat) along, accommodations are available.
If anybody needs to take advantage of this, PM me.
Offer limited to texaschlforum.com members (and spouse) as of the date and time of this post.
That's a good idea thanks TAM!
Same offer here. We are in Richmond just a few miles west of Houston. Have plenty of room for forum members. Just don't be too surprised if you get a paint brush stuck in your hand.

Just kidding I hope to have that done tonight. We are repainting the living room. The only pets we can accommodate are fish

Mrs has bad allergies.

You'd be very welcome -- and so would your guns!
We'll fight off those hurricane-zombies together!

Well if you liked that one, have another!

This one is a bit more random, but its one guys thoughts on guns mainly. He spent 8 weeks without power at his father in laws house.
The takeaways I got from it:
In an event like this, you're not going to be "on post" guarding your house. You'll have water, gas and food to deal with, need to clear roads to move around, check on neighbors, etc. You're going to be active, so most of the time your handgun will be your primary defense, not your rifle or shotgun.
The exceptions he had were encounters with looters at night, trying to steal their generator and the time his wife needed supplies from Wal Mart
after they had filled up a 250 gal fuel tank to take back to their neighborhood for people's generators.

He stayed outside with the jeep and trailer, and actually did have a group try to approach and steal it. He simply stepped out of the door of his jeep with an AK slung around his neck, and they ran like heck.
Its always interesting to get peoples insights into dealing with stuff like this. It makes me glad I don't live closer to the coast.

With all that has happened this past week, I get to try to unload in Alexandria La. on Wednesday morning.

I just can't seam to win for all the loosing I am doing this time out. I am supposed to pick up a DCM Bushmaster flattop on Thursday before he goes out of town for the holiday and won't be back till after I leave out next week, just not looking my week.

. Now I have to load both loads today and the shipper is behind and l started my day at 1 this morning which means I will not be able to leave Cedar Rapids Ia. till in the morning.

. This the life of a truck driver for sure, and to think a lot of folks only think I just sit behind a steering wheel and that is so easy

. Hope all of y'all that are further down get out ok.

It's nice to work for a company that takes hurricane prep seriously and encourages employees to have a storm plan, go bag, etc.

I'd offer refuge, but VA is a good bit too far for most to evac to. Besides it is looking like it might come our way after landfall and we had a nasty experience from that last time. Not much wind but amazing amounts of rain.

I know I should be filling up both of my cars right now, but I am having problems wrapping my head around the $3.59 a gallon. Coming home after Rita it was outrageous at $3.25.
I drove home from work at 6:10 a.m. the morning in 1986 for Hurricane Bonnie. It was a CAT 1. Had to drive around fallen trees, swinging traffic lights, but didn’t want to stay at work. Got home only to find I had no power.
