The 'new and improved' Garmin GPS that I didn't want bad enough to go to Wal-Mart at 2200 hrs Thursday is today available on-line for the Thursday night price. It should be delivered to my abode next week :woohoo

Sometimes, good things come to those who wait......sometimes, not so much.

That says it for me. That said, our son and DIL left our Thanksgiving dinner at 8 p.m. to make it to the opening of a "Black Thursday" sale at some store here in town. They've just bought a house and they're moving in the first week of December, and they needed a new refrigerator and a TV for the living room. They spent $1,800 on $3,000 worth of merchandise. That's a pretty significant savings. But I don't think I could do it. Like BigGuy, I'd have to leave my gun at home, and I never leave home unarmed.......so there it is. I think young folks handle that kind of abuse better than older folks because they're more focused on the end prize. For me, there's just no amount of price reduction worth that kind of aggravation.
I've done it in years past. Sure, there were crowds (of which I'm not a big fan to start with) but the atmosphere was not the frenzy and the disregard for humanity that seems more prevalent today. Our son and his fiance went shopping but later than the major rush and also ended up with some significant savings. When I finally ventured into a Home Depot last evening, there were hardly any other shoppers in the store. I asked the greeter if things had been wild and he admitted that there were a couple of times when the crush of people got a little crazy.

Like Old Gringo, our new Garmin (this time with life map updates) came at the same price as BF specials and I didn't have to deal with 100 others trying to make a similar purchase while I was there. My wife will tell you that I love to shop but like you, TAM, I dislike the hassles of the big rush. It was much more fun to take our granddaughter shooting instead.

That reminds me. I bought the GPS with lifetime maps about a year ago, but haven't got got around to updating mine. I bought it on-line and also ordered a nice holder that sits on the dash.
