well...our big "group buy" ended up a flop. Called my ffl buddy yesterday to check on the order I thought was to be delivered last week while I was down with the flu, and the report wasn't a happy dance event. Absolutely NO powder available in any of the various varieties we ordered.... and NO backorder accepted. Brass???? forget about it. One promising thing was that our 100k primer order may still be filled in 3-4 more weeks. Even my lousy little request for a few Sierra 170 gr .30/30 bullets fell off the world. I still have about 3 lbs of various pistol/revolver powders available, about 500 pieces of various brass already resized/primed, and a couple thousand large and small pistol primers, and a couple thousand various projectiles. As little as I've been shooting the last 4 years, that will last me at least a year..if it has to.

I was looking forward to breaking in those new RCBS .30/30 dies though.

Sorry to hear that.
It's kind of gone crazy AGAIN out there with reloading components.
What else can I say....There are just too many dumb people out there who believe anything someone tells them. Like if they get rid of guns and ammo, the world will be a safer place..!!!!!
THAT MAY WELL BE..But who will be safe and who will be in danger???????

Gun Control. It already has started at Academy !!!

There was a bit of confusion at the Academy Sporting Goods store this morning.
When I was ready to pay for my purchases of gun powder and bullets the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me."

Making a mental note to complain to the NRA about the gun registry people running amok, I did just as she had instructed.

When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided,
I found out that she was referring to my credit card.
I have been asked to shop elsewhere in the future.
They need to make their instructions to us seniors a little clearer!

and.... I ran out to the shop this morning and found a pleasant surprise waiting. There was 200 Sierra 170 gr Pro Hunter FN bullets, and 200 CCI Large Rifle Primers sitting there with my name on them, as well as some brass trimming tools I ordered. Still no word on the bulk order of primers and powder. I know I could load up a few rounds (.30/30 win) with Unique or Trail Boss, but that would be pointless at this stage. I'll wait for the real stuff, or "borrow" from a buddy if I get totally desperate. Actually my old micro groove Marlin shoots 150 gr Core Lockt consistantly 1 moa/poa at 100 yards, and really wanted 150's, but the last ditch effort was the 170's. Should be able to tink a load that works... I hope. Looking for either IMR 4895, H4895 or Reloader 15, but may have to look at any/all options they way things are going.

fun, fun

Before you blow your 30-30 up trying to get a 170 going 2,200 fps with Trail Boss ( "rlol" ), I would give you some IMR 4895 or Re 15. :cheers2:

funny

I went out to "the honey hole" this afternoon to check out what my GS buddy picked up from an old time reloader. Lots of various powders... some new/unopened, some partially used from. There was one "almost full" can of IMR4895 in the batch, but I was told that every can looked like it had been stored in a dusty attic for 30 years. Too suspect for my tastes. I found the only can of IMR4320 left in my neighborhood hid back on a shelf in the shop, and it came home with me. I'm figuring around 31 gr ought to push the 170's at about 2000fps, and I'll probably build a few at 30.5, 30.7 and 31.0 to test.

Nope, if I was gonna use TB, it would be with 125-150 gr HC boolits. Ain't gonna waste a 29 cent jsp for a plinker ;-)
