That's pure brilliance.

Added in Edit: I must give credit to this board for one response I've given when asked, "Do you think you NEED a gun?!" To which I say, "No. If I felt I was going to need it, I'd stay home."
There's the famous quote of a Texas Ranger's, when asked by a woman at a social function why he was carrying a gun...."Are you expecting trouble?" His answer, "No ma'am, if I was expecting trouble I'd a brought a rifle."

Last week my wife and I were headed out to one of the big box stores.

I strapped my sidearm on, which she's used to. Then I clipped on my two extra mags, which I guess she hasn't seen me do too often, even though I almost always have them on me.

She said "You expecting a shootout today?"

I said "Nope. If I were expecting a shootout, we wouldn't be going."

She has her CHL but almost never carries.

Other ideas for a response:

SELF-EFFACING: "Well I was a little fat for Karate, so here we are."

REASSURING: "Don't worry, the safety's on."

POLITICAL: "It's one less gun the Feds can send to Mexico."

CONFRONTATIONAL: "I'm not afraid to fight for my safety. Why, are you?"

Was it on this forum I heard the line, "This is Texas, Lady. Get over it." ;-)

Heck, you may have overheard me...

;-)

Seriously, I believe that concealed really means concealed and always try to ensure that I don't look unusual. (Well anyway...)

IF the topic comes up, my short answer is "yep".

IF necessary, I'll state that I'm perpared to meet my responsibility to protect myself.

Wife of twenty years: Are you wearing your gun?
Me: I think that question is a little too personal at this stage in our relationship.

My wife and I have had almost this exact conversation.

When the State Fair was forced to allow CHL's and had their convoluted rules. A less than bright young man, playing with a wand, shouted to the front of the line, "Gotta take this guy up, he's got a gun!" loud enough my wife heard it inside the gate. She said that several people just rolled their eyes and one guy said, "Well, this IS Texas." But that is a story for another thread.

Our local UPS gal is great. She pulled up one time when I returned from the range. I was holstering my carry weapon and leaned in to the car to pull out my range box and several firearms. She smiled, trotted over with our package, chatted for about a minute and left. She didn't bat an eye.

Easy solution get a bug (North American 5 shot 22 mag revolver is a good one for situations like this) and put in your pocket and carry your main gun in your usual way
Then tell the stupid anti gun fool " I would never carry A GUN" :lol:http://www.chuckhawks.com/naa_22magnum.jpg

No mam, a gun is a breach loaded artillery piece used to deploy an explosive filled shell larger than thirty millimeters in diameter at high velocities over long distances. Guys who carry guns usually use a ship, a tank, or at least a great big truck.

pronto! I never understood the word handgun anyway. A gun in your hand is something physically impossible. Pistol and a revolver is what I prefer to use to describe a handheld firearm.
