Now you done it! Rep. Lon Burnam's surely going to file a bill that requires you to get your NRA certification in Texas or it won't be acceptable for a CHL Instructor candidate. "rlol"

Crap! ;-) I am so busy doing CHL classes on the weekends I was just thinking when visiting my parents this summer I may have a chance to do one out of state.

What are some other alternatives? What would qualify under
(2) regularly instructs others in the use of handguns and has graduated from a handgun instructor school that uses a nationally accepted course designed to train persons as handgun instructors;
?

I don't know of anything, unless it would be a military certification.

And how do you define "regularly instructs"?

I'm thinking FBI Police Firearms Instructor School, U.S. Army Instructor School, and other federal schools. Maybe something like http://www.sigsaueracademy.com/Courses/ ... ourseID=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; also?

So it's pretty well limited to NRA instructor for anyone who doesn't have LE or military background.

Thank you for using the Regulatory Services Division’s website.

You may have received an early reminder in the mail about renewing your CHL Instructor registration. Because of ongoing changes that are in progress at the legislative level, we are unable to provide additional information or details about the requirements for your CHL Instructor renewal at this time. You may have noticed that the CHL-90 is not currently available and the CHL information on the website is under revision at this time.

The renewal period for CHL Instructors is set to begin at 6 months prior to expiration. Your patience is appreciated while we continue to update the forms and website to reflect the changes. Please lookout for a new reminder notice this summer that will provide you with all of the requirements and updates at that time.

Please continue to check back on our website for updates by visiting us at http://www.dps.texas.gov" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, select Concealed Handguns. For security reasons, please do not respond to this email. Should you need further assistance, please return to our web page at Contact Us to securely submit additional inquiries. To help us better serve you please copy and paste any previous messages into the new message.

Received the above email from my request on how to find the CHL 90 to renew. Looks like the times are a changing. Hope this helps but maybe everyone received this.

I got the same message a few days ago. Doesn't give any relief to those that already applied.

I'm one of those I believe someone on here said the online fee is good for one year so should be good when they send out new letters.

That was me. A little verification would be nice, though.

Wouldn't the course we took from the DPS qualify under this? Unless the course DPS teaches is not "Nationally Accepted"!
I was just wondering if this was overlooked or DPS considered their training as a Handgun Instructor School?

No, because one is not eligible to take the DPS course unless you are already TCLEOSE/NRA/"other" certified. So in order to be a CHL instructor, you need two certifications to your credit, the DPS Certificate and one more.
