Crap! I am so busy doing CHL classes on the weekends I was just thinking when visiting my parents this summer I may have a chance to do one out of state.

What are some other alternatives? What would qualify under

(2) regularly instructs others in the use of handguns and has graduated from a handgun instructor school that uses a nationally accepted course designed to train persons as handgun instructors;

?

I'm thinking FBI Police Firearms Instructor School, U.S. Army Instructor School, and other federal schools. Maybe something like http://www.sigsaueracademy.com/Courses/ ... ourseID=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; also?

So it's pretty well limited to NRA instructor for anyone who doesn't have LE or military background.

Received the above email from my request on how to find the CHL 90 to renew. Looks like the times are a changing. Hope this helps but maybe everyone received this.

I got the same message a few days ago. Doesn't give any relief to those that already applied.

I'm one of those I believe someone on here said the online fee is good for one year so should be good when they send out new letters.

Wouldn't the course we took from the DPS qualify under this? Unless the course DPS teaches is not "Nationally Accepted"!

No, because one is not eligible to take the DPS course unless you are already TCLEOSE/NRA/"other" certified. So in order to be a CHL instructor, you need two certifications to your credit, the DPS Certificate and one more.

Tex. Gov't Code §411.190 wrote:Sec. 411.190. QUALIFIED HANDGUN INSTRUCTORS. (a) The director may certify as a qualified handgun instructor a person who:

• (1) is certified by the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education or under Chapter 1702, Occupations Code, to instruct others in the use of handguns;
  
  (2) regularly instructs others in the use of handguns and has graduated from a handgun instructor school that uses a nationally accepted course designed to train persons as handgun instructors; or
  
  (3) is certified by the National Rifle Association of America as a handgun instructor.

(b) In addition to the qualifications described by Subsection (a), a qualified handgun instructor must be qualified to instruct persons in:

• (1) the laws that relate to weapons and to the use of deadly force;
  
  (2) handgun use, proficiency, and safety;
  
  (3) nonviolent dispute resolution; and
  
  (4) proper storage practices for handguns, including storage practices that eliminate the possibility of accidental injury to a child.

I just recently found this site, I have had my TX chl Instructors license since aug. 1995. And atended the recertification classes in 97, 99,01,03,05,07,09. are they now saying I am not qualified without the NRA Cert?
