There's also the point of, sometimes that property actually represents someone's livilihood. Someone who makes a living off their truck and their tools may well be put in a spot where they can't feed their family if that truck & those tools get stolen in a burglary.

If a criminal is bold enough to steal from you - he's potentially capable of hurting you if walk in on him stealing your stuff in your garage, vehicle or home.
Or, I guess, if that happens, you could pleasantly tell him to help himself, cuz you aren't going to quibble over a few baubles...and please come back for more, cuz he will...
