It definitely offers some food for thought as it was surprising to see how quick the lights went out instantaneously. It reminded me of a cow being put down at a slaughterhouse I saw one time.

That is exactly it. I worked on my uncles cattle farm one summer and that is the way we or the slaughter house would put them down. Fast and painless for the animal.

However, a CNS shutdown is not always a kill. The body may not actually be dead, but the shock to the CNS has caused the person to be unable to function. I was witness to this in a LEO shooting I was involved in where the person was hit between the shoulder blades with a .357 hollow point and dropped. When we reached the person he was still alive, but he quickly bled out. Long story short he was one of those people who needed killing as he had hacked his parents to death with an ax 5 hours earlier.

You're preaching to the choir here, my friend. Although my EDC's were 9MM's for some years, I am happy to have moved up to a .45,
and I consider it the more equal of my 2 onbody carries.

A few years ago I had some steady contact with a very large man who was a martial arts instructor, and seemed to have 'roid rage
(rage problems due to steroid use). The idea of ever dropping him with a .380 was a joke. After reading multiple "caliber wars"
threads, my personal decision was to move up from my 9MM to a .45.

People, think about this: If you are carrying a .380, you only have 90 grains of power to stop a threat.
Carry a .45 ACP and you've got 230 grains of power, plus a wider wound channel. It's a free country. YMMV.
