We have winner
Suspect in the video has been caught and guess what?
Custis is a career criminal with 12 felony convictions and a long record dating back to the early 90s. He was most recently jailed in connection with a string of burglaries across New Jersey in March 2011. He served 10 months in jail and was released in December, according to court records.
Glad this guy is off the streets. Disappointed he will likely be back out in less than a year. :mad5

Comment from the article:

"Great news, he is the worst and deserves the worst. All the gun lover that thinks a gun would make it different, unless you are walking around the house cowboy style gun at hip, the gun would not have helped."

Many of us do carry at home or keep weapons close by, so I believe that a gun could very well have helped, but having a small child around does complicate things.

"AND they have open carry in Texas!"

The fact that those in other states assume we have further illustrates the absurdity that we don't.

People are mentioning all kinds of creative revenge scenarios that will never happen. In our society, the only true satisfaction would be an armed victim taking him out on the spot and being vindicated.

I used to fly to Newark about every month or so from central Florida since half of our work group was in Piscataway.

Years ago my boss and I were driving through (he lived in Montclair, NJ) downtown Newark, first time I was ever there. With all sincerity I asked him a rhetorical question: "do people actually live here?" Another time we were eating with a few of our work group at a favorite Portuguese restaurant in Newark, I had a rent car and after the dinner was driving back to the hotel several miles away from Newark when we had a flat tire. Looked at the tire and discovered it had been slashed, I'm guessing we were being set up for some sort of nefarious event. Changed the tire and went on our way to never return to downtown Newark.

That area I call the arm-pit of the U.S., western NJ is completely different, scenic and rural.

12 (soon to be 13) felony convictions?!?!? Time to just execute him and be done with it. He's obviously never going to be rehabilitated. :grumble

And THAT won't happen in NJ - the vindication part. This guy served 10 months of his 12th sentence. The person that takes him out will be in jail a whole lot longer. Northern NJ is very protective of their criminals. :evil2:

How the hell can someone have 12 felony convictions, and not be subject to 3 strikes?!?! NJ implemented that in 1995, so he's very likely to have had to deal with it.

This dude should not even have a prayer of EVER getting out. Assume he does 1 year for every conviction (light considering his clear randomly violent streak) - he should have been behind bars for 12 years. That's in line with his crimes "dating back to the 90's"

But, he broke out of a halfway house in 2006. He clearly hasn't been locked up the whole time, so that means he's been put in several times, minimum.

At least one idiot judge and a sleezeball technicality defense type lawyer have to be involved here. I'd love to see the court case history to see how much bull there has been in sentencing this fool.

As I see it, armed citizens supported by the Second Ammendment are the backup for failures of the legal system.

I don't know that I agree. That might be the result if the nanny-cam was present, but minus that, I disagree. Most of us know of a case that's prominent in headlines right now, where the victim was being beaten, and shot and killed the perp. The victim is on trial now.

I challenge anyone to convince me that, minus a video of the occurance, there wouldn't still be libs on the left that defend the actions of the poor guy just trying to get some money to take care of himself the only way he knows how.

Not that good an analogy as the guy on trial violated one of the fundamental rules of CHL, which is not to pursue someone who is not an immediate threat.

I'm not going to go into the whole pursuit thing, but I disagree. I've seen the excuses made for the actions in that one. I've also seen other instances where folks have been defending their home and it seems to always fall back on "He didn't have to shoot the guy".

Bottom line is, we live in a society where too many sympathize, and even empathize, with the perps instead of the victims.
