I used to watch HLN all the time. That stopped immediately after the GZ trial. Their misrepresentation of just about every aspect of the case was so disgusting, I couldn't stomach it anymore! IMHO....HLN and it's analysts, pundits, and whatever else are as about as credible as the Inquirer and about as instigating as Jerry Springer!paperchunker wrote:I do a lot channel surfing during commercials and Headline News (CNN) had every show from 7PM to 10PM on this incident. Did GZ scam the people that donated?
Dash cam video released.. Reads like they took him down at gun point, which would be the correct thing to do on a DV with a MWAG call. Now his attorney has dropped him as well. The plot thickens. Best part is that Omara told GZ to pay him during a press conference.

Re: Zimmerman not arrested again
This is as much as a non-story to me as that little girl's performance a few weeks ago was. It's hard not to have a peripheral knowledge of such huge 'news' stories, but I can choose how much attention to pay to all the pundits, experts, facebookers, and squawking heads spouting off their opinions in ever-increasing volume and intensity. This thread is the most I've read about him since the verdict, and I read about 3 pages too many.
This Zimmerman guy has done nothing good for us. Why should I care if he gets pulled over in TX or is getting divorced or sneezed and broke a rib? I realize I may be in the minority here but that's how I feel.

Speak for yourself, spolct. He's an American patriot in my eyes, having stood up for his community and ultimately himself. He has helped me understand what "we" are up against. I am thankful he's alive and well, while his thug attacker is no longer a threat to society. I only hope that, as our country spirals out of control, there will be more George Zimmerman's than Trayvons.spolct wrote: This Zimmerman guy has done nothing good for us.

I personally don't think that he should have engaged the kid. To me, just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should. Did he really stand up for his community? His community certainly didn't ask him to patrol the neighborhood whilst armed, and I don't know of many neighborhood watches that encourage confronting suspected bad people. His bad (although not illegal) decision(s) cost the kid his life, and fired up the crowd on the 'other' side. That crowd isn't going away and is only going to get stronger. Think the NRA can stave off the assault on our precious gun rights forever? Not with the Zimmermans of the world on our side. He is fuel for their fire.
As an average white guy who spends a fair amount of time 'down in the hood', I have come to the realization that I will never ever truly understand the perspective of the black community regarding race. Deny it if you wish, but race had (almost) everything to do with this situation.
Re: Zimmerman not arrested again
Wrong. Completely wrong. Did you forget about slamming a skull into concrete? A broken nose? The wailing of blows to the head? The threat of "you're gonna die (expletive)? " That thug Trayvon decided his own fate that night by attacking an armed victim. His bad (although not illegal) decision(s) cost the kid his life,
The fault is Trayvon's alone. If he had not tried to kill George, he would still be alive. (Also, Trayvon would be alive today had he not done drugs, had he not been kicked out of school, had he not misbehaved so badly that his mother had to send him to fathers custody, had he been properly punished in school for possession of stolen property, had he not been born)
The only one to blame is the the dead guy that committed a crime.
Did you watch the entire trial? I suspect you did not, because if you did, you'd realize how senseless your opinions are on this matter.

Re: Zimmerman not arrested again
Respectfully, I disagree with your conclusion. GZ didn't even suggest TM was black until after being prompted by the dispatcher. He then replied that he thought the suspicious person was black. He did not confirm this until TM walked right by GZ's car while GZ was still on the phone. He wasn't out there driving around looking for a black guy to report to the police, so lets tap the breaks on GZ for a minute.spolct wrote: Deny it if you wish, but race had (almost) everything to do with this situation.
The sad thing is that we have made it about race because there is still so many racial issues in our country today. This does no justice to TM or GZ, regardless of what side of the argument we take. Is there racial profiling - whether is is right or wrong? Absolutely - it is very prevalent in the US today. And yes, there are "overly racially sensitive people" on both sides with an agenda. There always has been and sadly always will. We have exploited this tragic event and made it into a huge, divisive stance. With the way it has played out in the media, if you or I speak out about the incident, we must feel compelled to take one extreme side or the other. It's as if there is what really happened and what we want to make out of what happened. The fact of the matter is that we do have the right to report a suspicious person, and we should be cautious of unknown, suspicious people, whether in our neighborhood, on the city street, in a restaurant, etc. That in and of itself does not make anyone a racist. Lets not be foolish enough to feed into this racial polarization that has come out of this case.
That being said, I don't think anyone could argue harder for staying in your car than GZ himself. It has cost him all of his finances, his job, his name, reputation, put his life in danger for the foreseeable future, destroyed his marriage, and the mental anguish of knowing he killed a man. It also does no good to smear TM. He was barely a young man who made some really dumb, irresponsible choices, and for whatever reason, his decision to continue fighting GZ cost him his life. Being suspended for theft or drugs, (fill in the "TM hooligan" theory/assumption) does not mean he deserved what he got - that is a disgusting, shallow accusation to make about a young man who died a senseless, early death. It is better to simply recognize that GZ was cleared of any wrongdoing by a court of law. Because of the way the circumstances played out, GZ defended himself, TM died tragically, and nobody wins.
It's too easy for us to sit on the sidelines and armchair quarterback, but it won't bring TM back, nor will GZ's life ever be the same. Better to strategize how to avoid getting ourselves into a similar situation, show respect to the grieving TM family, and move on, hopefully with a little wisdom and compassion.

George Zimmerman was not on patrol that night, he was on his way to the store when he spotted a suspicious person. George had every right to be armed that night.spolct wrote:I don't pretend to speak for anyone else.McKnife wrote:Speak for yourself, spolct. OK, let's keep this on topic of the latest incident, not going back and
the old one.

I heard on the radio last night that the wife and her father recanted their version of what happened. Could this be because the supeona of the video fron=m their phones showed something different?
As said earlier, divorces can be very messy. I have first hand experience at what an ex wife will try to do.

It is actually quite common for the victim of a DV (domestic violence) to recant their statement after the fact. They realize what trouble their loved one will be in so they change it aka lie to make the incident go away. That is why the state has the option to press charges w/o a victim wanting to do so as is the case in most DV related calls.

Both versions are distinctly possible - and I say that based on the number of DV's I've worked on the medical side of the response in a 25 year career as a paramedic.

Not to mention but sometimes you can think and see something in the heat of the moment and later realize that you overreacted.
