Pennsylvania is one but they also don't criminalize failure to conceal so I'm not sure if that counts.

I'll take Texas gun laws over Massachusetts any day. Think I'll scratch that one off the visit list.JSThane wrote:I don't know if it's still the case, but weird as it is, I seem to remember Massachusetts does not give a "no guns" sign any force of law...
Granted, -getting- a carry permit there can be harder than pulling hens' teeth, and their "approved firearms roster" is total crap, but once you have it, there's very, very few places you can't take it.
The corporate offices for a company I worked for many years was in Reading, PA. As I recall other than hunting the area was not pro gun at all. Don't know much about other areas of the state.bizarrenormality wrote:Pennsylvania is one but they also don't criminalize failure to conceal so I'm not sure if that counts.
Ya know, funny that, I have no plans on moving there, either, although the wife and I do have kin there and we try to make time to visit.jmra wrote:I'll take Texas gun laws over Massachusetts any day. Just thought it was rather amusing that such a restrictive state has overlooked yet another way to make honest folks into criminals.
jmra wrote:Can you list those states for me? Other than Texas of course. I travel some and it would be nice to know the states you are referring to.steveincowtown wrote:jmra wrote:Some things you must remember about La. It is an open carry state for both handguns and long rifles. There is no way to prevent unpermitted open carry without preventing all forms of carry.
So if you want to prevent a Sy character wannabe from walking into the store thinking he is going to show off his toys and his skeet shooting ability to the "family", you have no choice but to put up some kind of no gun sign.
Lessons learned from my 30+ years in La:
- Open carry comes with a price
- Texans don't realize how fortunate they are to have 30.06 signs
- you can't find a decent roast beef po-boy in Texas
JMRA I would have to respectfully disagree.
They are many, states where a No Gun sign has no force of law. You may be asked to leave private property for any reason, which would include if property owner did not like you open carrying. If you were concealed carrying they would have no way to know, and therefor know reason to ask you to leave.
This is much, much better than 30.06. I respect the people who crafted 30.06, and who fought for CC in Texas, but to say we are "lucky" to have 30.06 is only true when compared with states like LA.
Anyhow, I get all my duck dynasty stuff at Academy. Not a single one posted...
Many states have signs that do not carry the force of law, and I cannot find one case where an owner asking someone to leave resulted in anything else than them leaving.
According to http://www.handgunlaw.us" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; the following states have laws (or don't have laws depending on how you look at it) that make the "No Guns" sign not have any teeth: (IANAL, do your own research if planning to visit these states):
West Virginia
Virginia
Georgia
Florida
Alabama
Kentucky
Indiana
Iowa
South Dakota
Montana
Colorado
Idaho
Washington
Nevada
Of course not all these states have OC, but this list certainly is long enough that if there was a problem, I am sure it would be all over the liberal news media.
Going back to the premise that most folks who would carry an gun on there hip are the good guys (as the bad guys don't want to be noticed), a store owner should be no more afraid of an armed civilian then anyone else. If we perpetuate the idea that store owners could never confront someone with a gun, I think the unintentional affect of this is giving ammo to the left that people should be afraid of law abiding citizens carry guns.
I don't know for a fact that getting rid of 30.06 and moving us into a situation like the above mentioned states would work here in Texas, but it looks like it is working for them.
Pls explain how you think Texas 30.06 is broken.steveincowtown wrote: I mean this as a polite discussion amongst all members of this board, but 30.06 is broke. If we don't fix it OC will never, ever pass.
There is a valid argument that private property owners in Texas would never tolerate what the folks in the states above have to.
I submit that private property owners don't have to tolerate OC, but what they don't know (ie someone carry concealed) won't hurt them.
Yep. Scripted, and geared toward the hunting crowd who will eat it up because it seems like they share our values. Kind of like WalMart carrying guns, so people think they're on our side.sunny beach wrote:More proof it's just an act for free publicity.
