I don't have a lot of extra cash laying around, but I do have enough that I don't need the hassle of keeping or getting back from the police a handgun I found on the side of the street. To be honest, I doubt I would have even touched the gun (don't want my prints on it). I think I would have called 911 ( to ensure the call was recorded) and wait there for LEO to come pick it up.

Any updates on this? I am very interested to hear the outcome of this story.. I would take it as high up the ranks of the PD as i could, just to see if you can walk away with that gun! Maybe found property rules (laws??) have exceptions for firearms.. I'm sure those exemptions exist for prohibited or controlled items (hand grenades, full auto rifles) but a handgun is neither of those in Texas (right??)
