Vest as Cover Garment

As for the Aloha Shirt idea. I typically wear them on Friday (Aloha Friday). It's a Hawai'i thing. I would think that wearing an Aloha Shirt with a t-shirt in the Texas heat would be about as obvious as wearing a vest. For casual wear, I may just stick with a baggy t-shirt when it's really hot. The vest may be more of an option when going semi-casual (i.e. t-shirt tucked into a nice pair of jeans) in the Summer.

I really think all the ado about what says "gun" or "shoot me first" is fostered by the CHL community and isn't common thought or knowledge. I'll admit buying into a lot of this thought early in my CHL life. The only "shoot me first" carry or concealment method I don't use is a fanny pack and that's only because I converted my fanny pack into a range first aid kit. As far as being worried about meing "made" because of what I'm wearing I think Rhett Butler said it best in GWTW.

Oh yes, I love Hawaiian shirts for cover.

Wear a shirt and "big boy" pants and skip the shorts and t-shirts. Clothes with pockets and shirts with patterns facilitate concealment. Also, light weight vests no problem. If all else fails, use a compact SA in a "Sneaky Pete" holster which could be anything electronic...lol.

JMO, biased, and caustic as usual, of course...lol.

I hated wearing shorts when I was a kid. I like them now, especially the cargo shorts. They are very comfortable and not out of place in the summer time in Houston. They also give me a chance to show off my white legs.

Considering the general consensus around here on folks that sport the CHL badge because they think it will help them be recognized as a "good guy" by LE, to lump those that wear vests in with them, it sounds kinda personal.

I don't wear the vests. They stick out like a sore thumb. I would think that even those who aren't in the know would take a second look at a vest. People just don't wear the things. I can count on one hand how many times I've seen someone wearing a vest in the last 10 years. If you want to pass it off as being a photographer you better have a camera with you or a fly rod.

I wear loose fitting button down shirts. They go well with jeans and cargo pants. I don't think they look out of place in the summer and Cabelas has a huge selection of them.

I saw a gentleman wearing a Sneaky Pete recently. It sticks out like a sore thumb if you know what it is - my eye went to it immediately. But then, mine is not the average eye and the gentleman was at no risk of a panicked MWAG call being made.

I agree that oversize button down shirts in patterns are generally the lowest profile cover wear that will fit in just about anyplace in Texas, even in the summer. That being said, I sometimes wear a vest in the cooler weather just because I feel like it. Folks who see it can think anything they like because I'm not the kinda guy who has to take a poll before I get dressed.
