IMO, leaving a gun in the car is a better option than leaving the house unarmed.

The mistake would be to visibly store anything in the car, or move it to the trunk, while in the parking lot where you can be observed. I generally safely store the gun before I arrive, usually when I am about a block away.

If I get stuck and have to leave my gun in the car, I keep a small combo safe under the front seat, cabled to the frame. It's not the most robust safe, but it is concealed and it will deter a smash and grab.

Going somewhere else where I don't have to disarm is the best option.

Couldn't agree more. Sometimes, however, I have to go places that I cannot be armed.
