Bomb vests require high order explosives which are not readily available in the U.S., and they take significant skill to construct. That's why the vests are provided to the "martyrs" already assembled by experienced technicians instead of just as do it yourself instructions.
Firearms attacks by small numbers of adversaries are much easier to plan, equip and execute, and thus more likely. A suitable EDC is an appropriate tool for such situations.
It's also worthwhile to note that giving up before engaging is a pretty foolproof way to lose.
They are available just south of the border though.
Frankly, I'd proffer the border remains open until there is one major mass attack here, then suddenly we'll discover we can in fact, secure the border. But neither party wants to do that right now and stop the gravy train for their respective special interests.

LSUTiger,
I looked up the covert gun case (MidwayUSA) and it seems (and I could be wrong) that it'll only handle collapsed AR's with a maximum barrel length of 14.5".
Is that your understanding too?
As it is, most (again, I may be wrong) are 16". True, some are shorter and some longer, but overall most sold to civilians are 16"
I have a Blackhawk Sportster gun case that I think looks covert, that'll hold 2 collapsed 16" AR's. This kit/case costs about $43.00 vs. $129.00 covert carry kit.
Have a look at it.

Reviewing EDC is a valid consideration.
Just west of Sullivan City, in Rio Grande City, border patrol agents seized 20 rounds of .50 caliber ammunition, 1o of the rounds were incendiary, five armor piercing and five regular rounds, the news release shows.
Drug smugglers having heavy firepower is typically seen in Mexico, however in recent years federal, state and local authorities have been coming across drug traffickers with grenades and assault weapons.

Maybe, maybe not. That may be true in many places, but for instance, if the plant where I work was attacked I might not have an exit.

No motive given for this attack yet:

A suspect in a series of shootings that killed three people and injured four others within an hour in the Los Angeles area was taken into custody after a daylong search.

As far as compact firepower goes it is pretty hard to beat this:
http://www.smithandwessonforums.com/for ... stock.html
Sorry I can't seem to get an image to paste.
I have enough AR15's to outfit a platoon, but the little AK is so compact it is super easy to conceal in a non-firearm looking bag. I have fine tuned mine so it is 2" group-accurate out to 150 yards with good ammo. I use Remington PSP ammo which is way more effective than almost anything else. Obviously I don't keep it in the truck all the time. On long trips we usually carry 2 AR's, the little AK, a 590a1 and a 930SPX with 300 round load outs for each AR, 190 rounds for the AK, and 60 rounds of shotgun ammo. At the risk of a tired cliche, I don't want to get killed for not having a gun.
I agree with what is being said here. We need to be prepared. Houston is a tough place to conceal carry 3 guns (3=2 right?) in the summer, but I'm looking for a weak side concealment cross draw holster for a Glock 20 or 21. I can carry these by wearing a large light T-shirt with a Hawaiian shirt unbuttoned over it when we go out. Dorky, right? The only crowds we get near are at church on Sunday.
I would really like to get an APCO-25 capable scanner. Surest way to know what to avoid.

Chas.
You may want to consider the 170 mm mag tubes for your two extra mags. (Instead of the normal 140 mm tubes.) That should kick you up to 80 rounds.

I hope and prey that you are all being a little over cautious or should I say fanatical? Although I own many of the weapons described in this post I don't plan on carrying them on my person or in my vehicle. Let's not become part of the fringe movement here.

We on this forum pretty much are already on the fringe if you consider society as a whole.

If you buy a Thompson you can order one that comes in a violin case from the factory.

This case works for me. Well made and inexpensive. Easily carries two long guns (carbine type) without scopes (one with), a handgun, and several mags. "Covert" is up the the user I guess. Too me it looks like a keyboard case.

You are of the well bred sophisticated sort. We call them fiddle holders where I come from.
