CHL and early voting

Re: CHL and early voting
I inadvertently handed my CHL to the voting official thinking I'd given her my D.L.
As she handed it back, I spotted it for what it was.
I told I meant to give her my D.L. She cheerfully laughed and said at least half of the voters were turning in CHL's rather than D.L. for I.D. I had my voter registration card in my other hand, for whatever that's worth.
I didn't notice any scanning of the CHL. Maybe yes. Maybe no. I simply didn't look that carefully as I thought she had my D.L.

Re: CHL and early voting
When I presented my passport card they tried to scan it, first one side and then the other. Nothing. There is absolutely nothing on it to scan. Then she commented that it didn't even have my address on it. Made her work a little bit. My chl and dl are both in my wallet but are the dickens to try to pull out. The slot just isn't too wide at all. Easier to use the passport, and nobody there needs to know about the chl anyway.
Re: CHL and early voting
I went in determined to use my CHL to see what would happen but just went with the DL. I didn't see them scanning anyone's stuff. She looked at it, typed in my information and handed me a sticker for the voting machine.

Re: CHL and early voting
I early voted on the first day. At our local polling place there were several "little old ladies" most of whom I already knew and they called me by name. She asked for ID anyway and scanned it. I told her that it would not scan as most cards with magnetic strips from my billfold will not scan after 3-8 months of my carrying it in my billfold. I don't know if it is my "magnetic personality" or the dirt and sand that gets into my pockets, but I have to replace credit/debit cards often.
She continued to try the scan, but gave up and typed in the number. Got that wrong 3 times. She said she knew who I was, but the computer had forgotten. I just enjoyed my visit with everyone and eventually got to vote--no sweat. After all I was the only one there at 12 noon. I offered her my CHL, but she said it was manual entry also. Not really worried as I know her husband has a CHL and figured she does also. Small towns are just a different attitude.

CHLer card has smaller font for your name and address. Use your DL if you can.

Re: CHL and early voting
I took my 6-year old daughter with me today for early voting. As we crossed the parking lot to the voting location, we ran into one of the candidates running for state rep in our district. She had tried to stop us on the way in (I had no idea who she was), but I'd blown her off, as I don't like to be 'coached' at the polls. She was just outside the legal boundary, so she was permitted to do this, but I thought it was tacky nonetheless.
We went inside, and I used my CHL, and the lady behind the desk seemed unmoved by it. Then we went to vote, and left the building. That's when it got fun. The same lady told us she'd wished we'd talked to her before voting, but thanked us for voting anyway. I decided to be sociable (and let my daughter talk to a candidate). She announced who she was, and who she was running against. I know my local rep, and he's an OK guy, so I told her I voted for him and wished her good luck.
My daughter started reading the bumper stickers on her car (she reads everything she can now - you all know how they are at that age). When she finished reading the one that said "I voted for Obama", she stopped and looked at the lady and said, "But Obama is the worst president EVER!. Why would you vote for HIM?!?""
I let it go for a few seconds, and pulled my daughter back in. I reminded her to be polite, and to thank this lady for running for office. I left and had a huge laugh in the car.

Re: CHL and early voting
At least you could tell she was a democrat. Where I live in North Texas none of the democrats in North Texas or Oklahoma will advertise their party affiliation in their tv or wriiten commercials. I guess they are not very proud to announce their party. Of course in the voting booth you can see but it's hard to tell what they are from the advertising except that when they don't list it you know they are democrats.Vol Texan wrote:I took my 6-year old daughter with me today for early voting. Re: CHL and early voting
My wife and I voted yesterday. She was in line in front of me, and the lady scanned her voter registration, looked at her driver's license, and then passed her through. I handed her my registration card, and CHL. She scanned my registration, didn't even look at my CHL. Just handed me the sticker to give to the guy at the voting machines, said sign here, and we were done. I'm not sure she even realized it was a CHL. Looking back on it, I think I could have used a Sears credit card, LOL.
Overall, painless, and now we avoid long lines on election day.

I voted on Friday
just brought CHL and DL, but not Voter Registration card.
I gave them the CHL first, the lady never tried to scan it, then tried to find me in their system manually. couldn't find me in the system.
after about 2 minutes, I gave her my DL, scanned, voted, and out.

I ordered my wife and I birth certificates a few months ago and they were only around $30 a piece?gdanaher wrote:I used my passport card. They said they had never seen one and wanted a tutorial about how it is used. My MIL has her free voter id card now. It only required getting her to the dps office, waiting a few hours, and having a genuine birth certificate that only cost $86.72 to get. She could vote by mail without the hassle, but she enjoys the outing. $86.72? Really?? And that was the slow route. Express got the tab up over $110. Nah, this doesn't affect poor people at all.
I'm not sure I would have bothered with the voter ID and would have just gotten a state ID, that way she can use it for other things too.
