I normally like to load a moderate bird load like #6, and I keep 3in 00buckshot on the saddle, because if they're not dead or mortally wounded, they got some distance, and it's time for penetration and power. (Note that deadly force would've only been used of needed, and if the threat was hostile at the time)

Mine is a 5+1. After the slugs it's .00 buck again.

That is an original concept to me. I've never heard of anybody doing that, nor would I do it myself, but if you ever do have to use this set up i am curious to find out how it works, but I am certain that it will be a bad day for somebody else. We all know his devistating buckshot and slugs are!

Wish you hadn't combined Hornady Critical defense and zombie crap. May be the same but I have a hard time with the junk that plays to the mentally less mature.

I consider them the same, with just a different cover. I know a lot of people do too, that's why I did it. I own more zombie max than anything else right now, but that's because I cleared the shelves of it when everybody bought the critical defense. I've had people laugh at me for loading my wifes gun with zombie max, but it's the same thing. I probably could've seperated the two, but I was giving everybody here the benifit of the doubt as far as their level of maturity. After all, they are here on this site with CHL's, that makes me believe they a bit more maturity then the regular zombies... I mean people, yeah, regular people.

I have magazines full of Zombie Max also. I see no issue with using it. The only thing I might have against Hornady is they seem to be loaded to lower velocities than the Speer or Federal.

I prefer Speer Gold Dot, but partly because I could find 50 round boxes at gun shows so the price was cheaper per round. Federal was usually available also. Most stores close by don't carry Speer Gold Dot at all so Federal or Hornady are the other two I use.

My apologies. My post came across much more critical than I intended. My ire is directed more to the manufacturers and marketers than to you. I just think it silly for marketers to play up the zombie craze with something as serious as self defense ammunition.

I'd carry HST if I could ever find it in stock. In spite of it's ballistics performance SD ammo is no good to me if I don't have it. I am currently using Hornady Critical Defense in 9mm as my SD load of choice because it is optimized for shorter barrel CCW type guns. I run Critical Duty 9mm in my 5" HD gun.

I just don't think I want to try to explain to a judge and jury of my peers (actually not so peer) after I used my gun to defend myself, why I felt the need to purchase special zombie killing ammunition with extra killing power when "regular" self defense ammo should have been sufficient. I can see an attorney for the one I shot arguing I was some kind of nut job looking out for someone or zombies to shoot since a rational person would not purchase such ammo.

I know I may be over thinking it, but I just always take this stuff serious and try to look at the potential risks. Guess that has just become the way I think from the industry in which I work.

It's all good! You're not alone in that thinking, and I just think it's more humorous than anything now. I have specially zombie ammo, hah!

I agree. It may not be an issue in a SD shooting, but why take a chance. Likewise, shot placement is far more important than ammo choice, but give yourself every advantage, use good quality SD designed ammo from a name brand.

Zombie Max ammo, coffee, toilet paper. If you have these, you are prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse!

I don't think I could contain myself... "he was a zombie! I shot em" good too! I blew out his brains cause that's the only way to hill him. And the only reason I put the body on a wooden stake in the front yard, covered it diesel, and lit it ok fire, was because there's no telling if it was a vampire zombie! You are the crazy ones! I bet there's some in this room right now..."


On a serious note, that does bring a point, but I don't think that will get very far in court. Especially being that it is Identical to critical defense. However, something like a RIP round would make jurors sway-able to that kind of tactic I suppose.

I carry Gold Dots in my Beretta .40. My BIL is a 28 year PD veteran and that is what he recommended to me. They shoot well and feed with no problems.
