The AP is now indicating that the perp who was arrested has a number of convictions and a record of mental health problems.

This will make it very pertinent how he got the pistol, private sale or over the counter with a background check which did not include his MH history.

Would be interested to know if he participated at the NBP protests at the Waller County Courthouse.

I have been eagerly waiting to hear similar. I can't say that I wouldn't be surprised if he supported or was directly involved in... less desirable activities. (Not sure of a good way to put it, it's all bad stuff to me.)

Do you really think people like this piece of human waste go thorough the bureaucratic ringer, like those of us law abiding citizens, to get their hands on a gun?

I don't think so. These "checks" only apply to law abiding citizens, they do nothing to deter criminals from grabbing a gun.

And the geniuses are wondering where he got the gun from? :headscratch

Probably would be easier to eliminate all the sources where he likely didn't get the gun from. Like cabelas, academy, gun store down the street etc.

:banghead:

It's a valid line of inquiry. With only about six months from date of manufacture to crime, this gun doesn't have a lot of history.

Was it a straw purchase by a family member or girlfriend? If that's the case, will there be a prosecution? If it was stolen, was it reported? Did he buy it 'on the street'?' What if he did buy it through a store and NICS didn't catch it - that's a legitimate cause for concern.

The aftermath of this horrible crime has been ugly all round, for the family and the investigating agency.

I think about that every time I drive by that gas station.
