I have CHL (or even under MPA) and am completely sober. I get a call from my wife that she's had a couple of drinks and asks if I could pick her up from a friend's house instead of having to drive.

I put my gun in the console and go get her. Once I pick her up, she isn't suddenly in possession of a handgun. I've also done nothing irresponsible by having my wife in the car.

Let's quit going overboard on things.

Gunpowder and alcohol don't mix. If your gun even gets a whiff of your breath the morning after you've had one beer, it will leap up of its own accord and begin shooting randomly, turning you into a murderous felon.

There is no legal standard for intoxication in Texas. It's whatever the proverbial anti-gun cop decides it is. If you look at him funny, you're guilty, end of story, even if you were just thinking about having a beer after you got home. Upon receiving your CHL/LTC, you're supposed to know that you may never drink alcohol again.

Because of our insane anti-drug laws I can't even carry when I'm smoking meth, even if I'm not "tweaking", but it's OK for me have a bottle of demon rum within close proximity to my EDC.

Fair point. My starting point wasn't why you got stopped or why the cop was at your door. I was equating being near a gun in both places after having a few drinks -- not on your person but in the glove box/on the end table...

the truly uptight fellas or gals that basically slam the gavel of judgement for someone having some beers with friends or whatever baffle me. This wasn't a "should I have a few beers or not" topic. The question was basically what are the legal issues I could face if I was slightly inebriated as a passenger with my weapon in the glovebox. Some answered to the best of their knowledge, some didn't. I feel like I am QUITE responsible for when I do have something to drink the gun immediately goes into the vehicle and doesn't stay on my person.

I applaud those that have never had a sip of alcohol with a gun nearby. You're my hero if that's the case. But how about getting off your high horse and offer some practical knowledge to the conversation instead of turning your nose up at the notion that consenting adults have the right to have some beers and get loud once in a while.

I'm not a newb around here but I never post so I am a new guy in that aspect and I'm sure I'll have little to no backup here in this response. Either way I'll still frequent this joint and learn what I can and I'll continue laugh at some of the over the top responses that some questions get.

Oh...misread the title. I was wondering how you could carry an intoxicated passenger in the glove box?

You're supposed to know that you may never have a drop again once you receive the CHL. You must not have been here that long if you don't realize that ALL members of the TXCHL forum are teetotalers. You are subject to being banned for even suggesting that an adult (over the age of 21) may have an alcoholic beverage.

Unless you make the argument that riding in your car while intoxicated is the crime of Public Intoxication, then legally you can be drunk as you wish and "carry" in your vehicle, as long as you aren't driving.

IF you are going to drink un-load your gun and put in the trunk before you get drunk

Have a sober designated driver get you home
