I gave him the option of shotgun or handgun, but he told me he doesn't want a shotgun because he said it's just for his apartment until they move out later. He's a small guy btw, about 5'5 and only 140 lbs. The power of the shotgun would probably knock him on his butt.
-PLEASE- don't perpetuate this myth. My daughter is 14 years old, weighs 100# soaking wet and stands 5'6". SHE can shoot (well, I might add) my Mossberg without -any- issues whatsover (and that's with both the pistol grip AND a regular stock on it).
He's in an apartment? DEFINITELY get a shottie instead of a handgun. With buckshot, there's less chance of the shot penetrating the walls into the neighbor's living areas vs. a handgun round which can and most likely WILL penetrate and possibly injure/kill someone on the other side of his wall, or a few walls away.
The fact that you stated the 'power of a shotgun would probably knock him on his butt' says that you probably should spend a little time (or more time) with one as well, because had you, you'd know that this is a crock.
Do your buddy a favor and ask him to log onto this forum and read up on the pros and cons of various weapons and their ammo as well in regards to home defense.

Thank you. I have become tired of having to reply to this.
My wife is also a petite woman and can handle a shotgun perfectly well, 25 shots in as many minutes (skeet).

Mrs. ANygun is a good wing shot with a 12 ga, all 125 pounds of her.
Not flaming, but when a person asks for advice and receives it then argues against it....

LOL, just to let you know I'm not the one that is arguing. It's my friend that's arguing. He's very picky person about what he buys. I've showed him this thread and he have read through it already. He very hard headed and wants a handgun instead.
Sorry for any inconveniences. I was trying to help a friend out. *sigh*

I hope he is able to achieve some peace of mind and the ability to defend himself without hurting anyone else through negligence.
Someone so hardheaded might have a hard time understanding the concepts taught in the class and responsibilities of carrying a handgun and the associated issues of possibly taking a human life.
Many of us have been handling firearms our whole life and still relize we do not know everything. Part of being a friend like you are doing is insisting he listen to wise advice, no matter how hardheaded.
This is not a game of paintball, and if he is as serious as he sounds, you could very well be dragged into a situation that you will regret in the long run.

My woman is 5'8" and weighs about a buck thirty five. She can shoot my dual pistol grip .12 gauge with no problem. In fact, she enjoys it!

Lest you incur the wrath of some amazing shootists, I'll apologize on your behalf to the fine ladies who frequent this Forum. One is IDPA five-gun classified. You do
not want to get her angry.

The point is that you don't have to be a big burly guy to shoot a shotgun...

The info on Carters Country is correct. And you timing couldn't be better. The 12 month same as cash deal runs for 1 week every JULY. I was in the Pasadena store the other day looking for my next new toy and planning on taking advantage of this deal. I've done it about 4 or 5 times in the past.
The guy behind the counter said they had not got the word yet on WHICH week in july it would be but that ads and flyers would be going out. Also you can call the store and get the info direct.
Here's a little info on what happend to their long standing deal with Wells Fargo. That company got a new president. As luck would have it he is one of those wacked-in-the-head anti gun freaks and has severed all ties with ANY business the deals in guns.
Carter's Country now has a deal with GE Finance. They are fine folks and I've dealt with them in the past. I'll hate having to fill out a new application but it ain't no thang. We will still git-'er-done, right.
I will call on Monday and see if they have the info on which week it will happen and post op a new thread on the subject.

I just talked to the good folks at the Pasadena Carter's Country. They still don't have any info on the specific date but I was told that the 12-month-same-as-cash deal is normally started about the middle of july. I will be checking back and I'll up-date this info as I get it. I'm gettin' up a nice little list

Got a flyer in the mail today and the 12-month-same -as-cash deal starts on July 19th and evidently goes the rest of the month.
BUT....
There are some differences from how this worked in the past. First of all they are not with Wells Fargo any longer. WF got a new pres and he is one a them freakin' "ANTIs" . Now Carter's Country us using GE Financing.
Also. in the past ANY gun you purchased was good for the 12-month deal. Now it says that only Guns that cost 500 bux or more get this deal. Guns under 500 bux get a 6-month deal. Don't know what that's abot but that's what is says on the flyer I got in the mail today.
I te'ya what, I'm always pricing guns and after lookiing at CC's ad I'm not seeing too much that is blowing my dress up. I don't have any number in my head but I believe that you can beat some of those prices at any mass merchandiser.
Good luck !

One thing about these six-months-same-as-cash deals: Read the fine print.
The ones I've done, if you don't pay it off in six months, you owe interest retroactively to the day you signed the contract, and it's a high rate.
