I still that, too, even when getting one out of the safe that I unloaded before putting it in there. You know, just in case I did something stupid when I put it in there.WTR wrote:I just assume every firearm I pick up is loaded. I don't care if I just saw a person clear a weapon then hand it to me. I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Re: Gun Storage Procedures
All guns are always loaded ;) But at my place they are much less likely to be loaded if I store them in a case.
If I didn't live alone then I would let my significant other pick out a large vase to put a fake plant in, then fill it with sand.

But if a gun goes off unexpectedly inside, you might not be able to hear her for a whileTreyHouston wrote:...You know however, I will get the ear full from the wife regardless![]()

Re: Gun Storage Procedures
It depends on storage location for me. Guns in my main safe are unloaded. Guns anywhere else are loaded. Range bag, car, bedside safe, holster = loaded. I don't like the idea of grabbing a gun and being unsure of whether it is loaded.

Re: Gun Storage Procedures
All guns have mags in them. Some are loaded some are not. All "First responders" are loaded. Carry weapons are cocked and locked. It makes little difference as every one of them will be treated as if they were loaded when picked up. If I were to get run over by a concrete truck tomorrow. Mrs. builder would continue to do what she has done for the last 25 years. Leave them where they are. I have zero concern about my sons unraveling my condition of proposed readiness or system of identification of each individual weapon's condition. They will treat every gun as if it were loaded. Render them safe, and probably begin drawing straws
