I wonder who one would sue if the Fairgrounds are rented to a private entity. Would the Fairgrounds lose their immunity from almost all torts? Seems only fair to me. Maybe someone should slip on a wet spot or trip on an unmarked grade change at the FT Worth Zoo or Dallas zoo! Even better get run over by a zoo vehicle since like negligence caused injuries, vehicle accidents aren't exempted.

Yes and I hope the AG nips it in the bud for good.

The "fines for signs" has no teeth. Make the first day $10,000 and all other days $100,000 each. Make it hurt enough that it will be easier to just take the signs down. And change the law to hold the govt. entity directly responsible for the actions of the lessee. No allowing the govt. to weasel out like Fort Worth did.

I can't sit on my hands like I ought to, sometimes. I wrote to the Assistant AG who wrote the opinion letter to Brazos County, and to each Brazos County Commissioner, the Brazos County Attorney, and their County Judge.

That was on the 29th, two business days ago, barely enough time for the US Mail to motivate a carrier pigeon for the trip.

Today I got a call from the AG's office - a very friendly, cheerful call - wanting to respond in person to my letter, and to assure me the AG was pursuing the issue. The first step, apparently, is the appeal of the Waller County judicial miscarriage.

Now to see if I get any response from Brazos County. If so, I wonder if their response will be as collegial as the AG's reaction. The tone of all my letters was the same, about as confrontational as Fess Parker at a Founder's Day picnic.

I'm encouraged. The call from the AG was like talking to a fellow shooter at a gun range. Animated and friendly.

There is hope.

What aggravates me the most is how some places want to fight with law abiding citizens and others seem to bend over backwards to welcome you. So I can carry at the state capitol but not brazos county courthouse, makes sense to me. I owned a house in brazos county for 10 years and they were always a pain to deal with compared to washington county where my other house is.

Tarrant County Northeast Courthouse isn't posted either.

Johnson County is not posted, at least their main court house and the annex in Alvarado. I haven't been to their courts building in a few years, which is a few blocks south and west from the main courthouse, but it is strictly dedicated to courts and courtrooms, so I imagine they still have the metal detectors there that they had a few years ago when I was called for jury duty. The only place posted in the Alvarado annex, is the JP office, and during voting they post signs to the room used for voting.

Combining Government Code 411.209 with Penal Code 30.06 and 30.07, it's clear political subdivisions cannot rely on 30.06 and 30.07 signs as the private sector can. When political subdivisions remove references to 30.06 and 30.07 but still ban weapons, they are asserting inherent power to ban weapons independently of the above statutes. That argument may work better for home-rule municipalities than for many other political subdivisions, though my view is that it should fail even as to home-rule subdivisions. But the argument was predictable given the wording of the statutes. If the legislature won't straighten it out, the courts will have to do so, and going to court is always rolling the dice.
