I have also heard of stories where the arresting officer fails to discover a weapon on a defendant and later on in the booking process at the jail one of the jailers does a patdown and finds the weapon! Ouch!
Often LEO, just like anyone else can get complacent, or were never properly trained, in the proper procedure, for frisking a suspect. From previous posts in this thread, regarding TTPD and their procedures in handling suspects, it sounds more like a "hands off" policy, whereby restraints, or getting too personal with a pat down, was frowned upon. Hopefully those things have changed, but an officer had to lose his life.

There were two officers that went to the dorm room for the welfare check, and where the defendant was frisked. The officer who was killed was one of them. If it was the other officer who conducted the frisk, I would be horrified if I were him, or any other officer who searched the defendant and missed the gun. He should probably be on suicide watch, especially today.

01 Dec: Court documents show prosecution will seek death penalty if defendant is tried and convicted. Court documents also indicate defendant may or likely will be found incompetent to stand trial, in which case he would be sent to North Texas State Hospital, Vernon Campus.

In other news, AP articles about this turn of event think Seguin is a suburb of San Antonio. Heaven forfend!

Let me get this straight. Texas Tech will will accept a student who doesn't even have enough mental capacity to stand trial?
Something tells me that tidbit won't be included in the school's recruitment brochure.

Yet, it fails and fails and fails....
When will the pro-commie/proletariate realize communism, and it various cousins simply fail to work for 'the people' but it does provide a haven for dictatorship...?
This approach isn't simple stupidity...it's insanity.

Latest update I can find:
Hollis Daniels Makes First Court Appearance
All the article says is he made his first court appearance, no results or other status. I believe the date was 22 March 2019.

So sad. The officer was just doing his job. Prayers for the officer and his family.

Problems with welfare checks are kinda like red flag laws in the way of people being able to abuse the system with them. No repercussion for the welfare check if misused to harass someone.

My understanding is his parents are local well-to-do, but I don't think they are stupendously wealthy. The mother is a travel writer and the father comes from a long-time Seguin family that had a chain of theaters, but sold them in the 90s. The father was a Seguin city councilman at one point.
They are probably very comfortable, but not Bernie Sanders levels of wealth and power...
