For British politicians and senior police officers the idea that the country should switch having all officers carrying firearms would be rather like slaying a sacred cow. There are two sacred things in a largely secular British culture. The first is the National Health Service, the second is that unlike other countries we do not need to arm our police. To challenge either of those beliefs is socio/political heresy, therefore it is a career ending move for any politician to suggest changing them. I don't think it's that they allow the savages to do what they want as much as it is that they can't do anything to stop them and are unwilling to allow any civilized folks to defend themselves. That's what I think is madness.
They would rather let a baby die than spending more money to keep it alive. Wait parents find another country where their health system will cure the baby and will do it for free. They take custody away from the parents and refuse to allow the baby to be treated overseas.
