Southern california might as well be mexico. All the gangs and drugs. I lived in comifornia for close to 4 years and they had ridiculous laws. And people are not exxagerating if you are caught violating the law even if its something minor and you didn't know you best know a good lawyer or you better find one.

I lived in SoCal most of my life until moving here in 2006. I was NOT exaggerating. Their law is easy to follow, but get caught breaking it, and you WILL do time. Like most socialist paradises, they are not very forgiving people.

Well a lot has changed since 2006 and thats not just Cali. That could go for everywhere. Just look at Austin. I wouldn't even call that part of Texas anymore.

My daughter is an actor so we drove to LA and spend time there often.

I’ve elected to forego having my gun with me.
The odds of needing it vs the odds that it could cost me a lot of time, money and/or freedom don’t make mathematical sense to me.

Which is exactly what I brought with me last May on my last trip there.

While I'd never live in CA, I'm fortunate enough to work remotely for a large CA-based company. The downside is that I have to go there quarterly. One of the times I was there, the San Bernardino shooting happened, so having a gun with me (when/where I can) is a requirement from the wife!

I fly, so I check the gun. It stays in the Microvault until I get to the hotel room. It then immediately comes out and stays loaded, as CA law states that a hotel room is the same as a temporary domicile, at least when it comes to having a gun. During the day it then goes back into the Microvault (still loaded), locked, and then it usually gets cabled to something and put inside the room safe (which are very insecure, hence the cable). The day I check out, I unload it and put it back in the suitcase.

My first instinct, like a lot of others (besides "don't go!"), was to bring the cheapest gun I had that held the most ammo closest to 10. That was normally my 9mm XD-sc. On the other hand, the other part of me thought "Well, if I'm capped at 10 rounds, I want 10 of the hardest hitting rounds I can!". So I started bringing my 10mm or even my Five-seveN. My next CA traveling gun might be a Colt Delta Elite. 8 rounds of 10mm sounds pretty decent, and while it's a tad pricey, it's cheaper than losing my Sig P220 Hunter or my precious Five-seveN!

Because I would feel being without a gun anywhere at this point in my life. Mostly to shoot at the range, and partly to have a means of self-defense since I might drive cross country.

Yeah I'd being a cheap gun too. Thinking one of my Taurus or Rossi handguns.

I agree if you drive all the way and don't have to visit places like Government buildings or other prohibited facilities for business.

I'd go and buy me a cheap 9mm pocket gun <10 round magazine and use my lockbox.

I'd carry in every other state except California and lock it up in California. If something happens to us, I'll (or my heirs) sue the state for failing to provide me with a way to defend ourselves.
