I'll pass on that.
This needing an explanation is a very sad commentary on our education system, at least when it deals with history.Excaliber wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 8:29 am If you're still mystified by the sign, here's the explanation.
Well, looking back at the results of the 2022 Annenberg Public Policy Center's annual Civics Knowledge Survey is one glimpse of our education system. Only 47% of U.S. adults could name all three branches of government; 25% could not name any one of the three branches; 11% could name one of the three correctly. When asked to name the five rights protected under the First Amendment, 26% could not name one. Freedom of religion was named by only 24%, and 30% were able to name freedom of the press.srothstein wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 10:27 amThis needing an explanation is a very sad commentary on our education system, at least when it deals with history.Excaliber wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 8:29 am If you're still mystified by the sign, here's the explanation.

I'm off-topic for the meme thread, but...yeah. I have low confidence in the state of our education system. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), dubbed "the nation's report card," latest numbers from late last year showed that scores for the average 13-year-old dropped a whopping 14 points in math compared to just a decade ago, and reading scores dropped 7 points. From what I can tell, we're at an all-time low for those scores in math, reading, and civics.
I keep having flashbacks to the movie Idiocracy.![]()
