Dead Skunk by Louden Wainwright III.

First time I heard it was when I came home from basic training in March 1973. Mrs. Anygunanywhere and I were driving to her mom's house. Mrs. Anygun was sitting on the console of my 1967 Camaro with her arm around me. The radio was playing and Dead Skunk came on. She asked me if I had heard it yet. We cruised down SH 146 through Seabrook listening to the song.

Is this the same Larry Collins who wrote "You're the reason God made Oklahoma"? I think he(the writer)played a double neck guitar in the video I of him performing the song.

Yes, the same person. According to Wikipedia, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, the writers of the song "Rocky Top," sued Collins and Pinkard for copyright infringement concerning this song, because the tune was similar to their song "Rocky Top." They won the lawsuit and are now often credited as having co-written the song.

I don't hear the similarity with "Rocky Top", but I wasn't at the trial. :???:

BTW I think "Rocky Top" is a great song. I posted two versions of this song earlier in this thread.
