Third degree murder charge reinstated, so they can give the jury the opportunity to find him guilty of something, so they can continue to live after the trial.
What ever it is, it sure as heck was not third degree murder. Completely absurd! That right there proves this is nothing more than a political whitch hunt to satisfy the mob.

Not being an attorney, some of this causes me a bit of confusion. Specifically the dismissed for cause rulings. I am taken by jurors who have made statements on their questionnaires showing extreme prejudice not being dismissed for cause. One of them even made social media posts showing extreme prejudice and they are not dismissed for cause because they state they can be impartial? Crazy.

One of the main points for us in following this analysis is seeing how a trial really works. It is not as seen on TV or in the movies and certainly not as it plays out in one's head. Indeed, for we poor unwashed, a lot of it is counterintuitive. That is another reason that a good lawyer and a well funded defense are important.

How come there is not a change of venue?
Seems if any case deserved one it would be this one.

A lot of the most important parts of a trial happen without the jury even in the room.

the 3rd degree being reinstated, THANKS for the link the article actualy was very helpful. The news on TV reported friday morning that the grand jury had been sworn in and they applied the new charge. this confused me to all heck and back. as the grand jury was already empaneled last year, so how could they empanel a new grand jury to submit or review new charges as the charges were already set.
i mean you dont arrest and charge a person and go through jury selection without first doing the grand jury part to actually se eif charges are filed or dropped....correct

The problem with a change of venue is that you not only have to show that they cannot get a fair trial where they are, but that they could get one in the new venue. In most of Minnesota, there is no way they could get a large enough jury panel to go through for this, so it means there is no venue in Minnesota where they can get a fair trial. And because they are changed under state law, the trial must be held in the state. Venue cannot be changed to another state.

Anyone who doesn't have a strong opinion about Chauvin and the events that followed probably has some competency issues and shouldn't be allowed to make life-changing decisions for anyone.

I will never believe the timing of the settlement and the comment that all city council members were unanimous was not an attempt to further taint prospective jurors.
