Morn'
We are in the MCallen. Eval. Galveston about 6 am 9/12 with wife, cats and paperwork and weapons. 1. rumors is that our house has or had 3 foot of water. The elevation of the streets is 13 feet. The house floor is 4 foot about the streets. 2. rumors that looters were shoot. 3. Fact GPD lives across the street. God bless all in the area. Any others stories or rumors?
Probably my last check in for a WHILE. Power back on again but dont know for how long. Wind here is now clocked at gusts of 75. Sustained & constant at 45-50.
We now have seen one of the turbines on our roof go into the back yard. So far we are still dry. All trees look good around our house & as far as I can see down the road in both directions.
Signing out & shutting down so the computer will reboot when this is over.

Over here in LA we are on the edge of the storm with frequent high wind gusts. Still with power but anticipating to loose it at anytime. New Yamaha 2400ie generator is at the ready. Flooding in nearby Lake Charles. Port Arthur and Bridge City didn't fare well according to news reports. Certainly Orange with it's downtown right on the water, must be having trouble with the surge factor. Anyone know how The Heights of Houston is affected?
I've been watching the news from the wife and my staging area in Killeen. Haven't seen or heard anything about League City or South Shore Harbor. We live on a 4th floor apartment and covered the windows, so I'm not concerned about that as much as the car we left behind. Does anyone know how the streets look? In hindsight we should have parked it in the parking garage across the marina, but oh well.
We managed to get all the photos, guns, jewelry, and papers, as well as about 2 weeks worth of clothing packed and headed out within 2 hours. Overall, I was pretty pleased with how quickly we were able to get what we needed and leave. The only things we didn't bring were some movies to watch, but we have netflix online.
Also, had my first experience with law enforcement with a CHL. My brother-in-law lived on Fort Hood, so we got a hotel in Killeen so keep the family in one location. Well, we arrived before the room was ready, so we decided to visit his home first. With all the chaos of packing and driving, I completely forgot about the 3 handguns, 2 rifles, and 2 shotguns thrown in the back of the truck. Well, I give my license and registration to the DPS at the visitor center, and he matter-of-factly asks if I have my weapon on me. I naturally said no, because it digs in my hip while I'm driving, but then he asked if I had it in the car. The "darn it" look on my face gave me away as I remembered, and he very nicely said that he couldn't give me a pass, but that I was welcome to leave my car at the center and have my brother-in-law come pick us up until the hotel was ready. Overall, a pretty pleasant experience, and I was treated very respectfully. I now have the handguns stored in the hotel's safe deposit boxes, and the long guns are stored in a gun safe at his friend's house off base. I figured all heck would break loose once the security guy asked about weapons, but I guess it just shows how much they actually do trust us.

These really don't do it justice-if you were here, you'd see how bad it actually is.
I'd guesstimate power restoral will take well over a week, and we're right on the main highway.

Well, I'm posting from Corrigan, Tx. We lost power around 4am last night.
This storm was by far the spookiest thing I've ever been through. Around 3:30 I decided it was time to lock my laptop up in its waterproof/crushproof/dustproof case. So afterwards I used my iPhone to keep browsing the net. The Amp for my electric guitar had started going crazy so I could tell power problems were coming my way. Coincidentally, the power spikes and dips gave my playing some coolish effects. I didn't think about it, but I wonder if lightning could travel through the amp into the strings of my electric. who knows, but prob. not a good idea to have been playing.
I live out in the deep woods between Corrigan and Chester and we are about to go drive out and see how much damage their is. We just haven't 100% determined if its safe to do so yet. Their is still quite a wind going.
I know last night I heard at least two tornado's.
Luckily their was no damage to the house or the welding shop. We are going to go drive and see if any of the big windows on the front of the western auto got knocked out. We just don't know if we can get to it with all the debris.
I can't wait to get to the welding shop where I have real dsl internet. This satellite internet is really horrible (but I have to give credit where credit is due, it didn't go down at all while I was using it last night through a hurricane.)

Anyone else from the corrigan/lufkin area?
That's almost exactly when ours went down. We're just 30 miles or so south of you,and it's already let up here enough to start cleaning up.

Lost power about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Have been running around hooking up generators all day (Me, inlaws, sister in law, brother in law).
I just got into my fifth change of clothes (all others soaking wet).
Thought I'd hook the computer up and see if it works (it does). Will be going to Houston in the next day or so...to help family down there clean up. Most limbs and a few trees down here. I doubt we had any gusts over 70 mph. We will definitely be without power for several days though.

Just got back from League City, South Shore Harbor area. I took a quick trip through the neighborhood and didn't see much severe damage there. Lots of downed fences, a few trees and many tree limbs, some roofing tiles. The rain was pretty minimal, mostly very high winds. Hwy 518 and 270 were clear and dry. The Seabrook side of the lake didn't fair as well, lots of downed trees, power poles, some flooding near the lake. A couple of apartment building on Nasa One had a lot of damage. The Kemah bridge traffic is closed due to some flooding.
After some slow rain all day, Ike finally reached Texarkana with noticeable winds about 5 p.m. The power went out at 6:15, and most businesses shut down shortly afterwards.
I had to pick my daughter up from work at 9 (although they had shut down the mall at 7, because some thieves were taking advantage of the intermittent power. I saw that about half to two thirds of Texarkana was dark; 100% of Wake Village, and about 75% of Nash.
We had made do with candles and lanterns, but I fired up the generator about 9:45, so we could check radar and watch TV.
I am up & runnin. I am glad to see Flint going.
Thanks to all who called & especially the El Paso folks. Thanks Quidni for your national guard help as well as prayers & care.
We actually got power last night about 8:45. I was posting a report when it went out again while I was typing. Only a short out. Started again & I just got started & power started flickering. Turned everything off again & waited til this morn.
Our house no major damage. yard trashed w/ small limbs & leaves.
Church building faired well. Metal roof & only a couple of very small leaks that just dampened the floor.
Will see about power there this morn. No water either.
Members are all unhurt. There will be clean up work for our elderly & widows for a WHILE.
Was talking to tote9 when the storm was there & something really hit his house. Have not heard back from him. Keep the North folks in prayer too.
Thank you Lord for your protection here.
Grant grace in the areas where there is still great destruction here & down South in Jesus Name
AMEN.

Let me know if you need me to run down there and check on him.
I had to be at work this morning (prisons don't shut down for bad weather), but my wife said power at the house came back on about 9:30. No major damage in our neighborhood, just some dead limbs down and tree trash everywhere. Maximum gusts were under 60mph.
Ooops, wife just called and we have a casualty. She slipped and broke her toe. "Broke", as in "It's sticking out sideways and I can't move it."
