Maybe if they'd just put the "no shooting yourself anywhere on the property, intentionally or otherwise" policy in writing instead of assuming it was understood...

Yeah, but then only criminals would shoot themselves ....
OH WAIT, maybe that IS a good idea.

My wife has a friend she went to high school with whose husband was killed while supposedly cleaning his Glock. It was ruled accidental, but many folks in the know stated they really believe it was a suicide. Their theory is for his family to save face and be able to collect his insurance, that he staged it look like he was cleaning his gun. The reason they believe it was not an accident was that he had a lot of personal issues going on at the time, and the timing was just too coincidental not to be intentional.

I don't think any policy changes would have helped this guy. Although it may help some of the other people who have had incidents there.
I know a couple ranges around here won't rent a gun to you if you are by yourself, or didn't bring you own guns, or you just look strange.
I think it was a very sad turn of events, and just goes to show how important the 4 rules are.
Oh I agree that policy changes probably won't help or change anything, but these tragedies tend to cause policy changes. I guess it sends a message that something has been done even if it's useless. I'm surprised that gun rentals are still legal considering what happened in Florida when that women killed her son.

That would make about as much sense as outlawing truck rentals because of the Oklahoma City bombing.

BTW, a lawyer friend of mine said that suicide no longer prevents the survivors from obtaining the life insurance money, but it will take up to a year or more to receive the death benefit payout. This is done as a disincentive to suicide for insurance purposes.

Embalmo, you're waaaaay out there on this one.
Anyone can drive right up to the Red's parking lot and commit suicide. Anyone who is concerned about doing so while still covering their family can certainly formulate a plan to do so after renting an hour of range time, and "clean" their gun in the parking lot.
Your suggestion that Red's patrons are less safe is just asinine.

I'm gonna' need you to quote me on this one, 'cause I can't find where I said that patrons were less safe at Red's. Second, you need to watch yourself with this personal attack-It's my understanding that the moderators of this forum have higher standards than to allow someone to tell another that their comments are "asinine" and "waaaaaay out there". Trust me-I've learned that lesson the hard way.

Oh-If this is about the "Patron at Red's say they still feels safe."

Watch the newscast video and you'll see that the women reporting the story closes her report with that quote. I found this quote so incredibly ludicrous that I repeated it with the

Funny enough I was talking to a co-worker about it and she said "I wont go there then"
Which led to me going on a 45 minute rant about how thats silly
Then she asked if I wanted to go there, and I said
NO! Thats where people got o die!

This guy writes:
The proof that one is dealing with a suicide and not an accident is usually the nature of the wound - contact. An individual does not place a gun against the head or chest and then pull the trigger in an attempt to clean the weapon. The author has never seen a death caused by a self-inflicted wound incurred while "cleaning" a weapon that he believed to truly be an accident."
Keep in mind he's talking about fatalities, not injuries.

Word on the street is the medical examiner ruled it suicide not accident but I can't find anything official.
