That's not possible. A Texas CHL will swipe their license and it instantly confirms an active CHL by sending a query to DPS computers. This isn't possible with out of state licenses.

And that is my concern...I feel even more for the folks we have reciprocity with than the domestic Texas licenses...I feel they will receive more attention than we will...To me reciprocity means equal consideration and courtesy...Maybe we can figure something out for them in this case...I believe they should be afforded the same discretion as we will receive...

But that's just my opinion...

I asked this question, in another thread I guess, before it was clear how the CHL line would work. If I show up with my 9 year old and 6 year old, who obviously won't have a CHL, they go through one line and I, with a licensed concealed weapon, have to go through a different line, how does this work? I don't feel like being separated from them in a crowded Capitol building. Are the entrances side by side?

That is a good question. Will I have a wand waved over me, and the detectors go off if I want to stay with my 3, 6, 9 and 13 years old boys??? Maybe I will do a dry run with the 13 year old to see how it is handled.

Surely somebody has taken kids to the Capitol and seen how this is handled. Anybody?

Not at all. It is what I would do. If the guards told me to do otherwise I would, but I would do it after I gave it a try.

Better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

I went into the capital building a couple of weeks ago (June 18) with my wife and 3 daughters. Wife hadn't received her license yet so she went through the metal detectors with the oldest daughter (6). I took the baby (8 months) and the middle daughter (3 years) through the CHL line in the stroller. No problems getting the kiddos through. No questions were even asked about them. No searches of the stroller.

There were basically no lines and my wife did beat me through because the State Trooper's computer was running slow when he was checking the status of my license. Computer was so slow the Trooper finally called it in on the radio. While waiting 2 employees walked past me, flashed their ID and were right in. They didn't even break stride. There is a difference between the CHLer's and the employees. You'd know who was who without much thought.

Anyway, that's my experience hoped it answered a question or two.
