Ya'll are buying at Wal-mart in the wrong order. Shop for your other stuff first, then ask for ammo. Pay for all of it at the gun desk. Now, not a huge bill of goods.

When did the ATF come up with rules that you can’t leave a store with “an "unsecured" firearm”? I have never run into that before. Yea I would have had to ask “does that mean I have to buy trigger locks and put them on the two I am carrying before I leave the store?” I couldn’t help it.

I have been to Academy, bought ammo, and not feeling well, gave the ammo to my wife to pay for at the front register while I went on to the car, no problem. I guess it might have had something to do with being in pain and having a frown on my face that might have made them think that if they gave me any static they might have to go to a proctologist concerning the removal of my cane.

I support the gun shops when I can but WM is 10 minutes and on the way to the range compared to 45 minutes each way to Carter Country. By the way, just found a gunsmith that just opened a shop about 20 minutes from my house. Talked with the guy a few minutes the other day. He is a Vietnam vet and told me a couple of interesting stories about his experiences with the 1911 in Nam. I will have him do a little work for me shortly.

I buy all my guns at my local gun shops. I window shop at Academy and such except for ammo.

My wife & I bought her LCP yesterday @ the Academy on I-10 at Bunker Hill. Had a very pleasant experience w the clerk, and after the paperwork he walked us to a cash register up front. He turned to walk away before we were rung up, and I asked him if he wasn't going to escort us out of the store, dangerous perps that we were? :-)

He said that as of a couple of weeks ago, they were no longer required to do that.

I've got another reason I don't buy at Academy. It seems that they won't sell certain long guns to anyone under 21 years of age. When questioned about it, the manager tried to tell me that it was federal law. I call her on it and explained the laws. Told her if the company policy doesn't change, I wouldn't be giving them any of my money. I'll window shop then purchase elsewhere.

I have no problem with any of that. I do have a problem with showing my DL and signing for ammo at Sports Authority though

WHEN Wally World has any sort of adequate selection of ammo, I just pay for it at the Sporting Goods counter and call it good. Interesting how one Wally World will generally have a good selection and another just a few miles away won't.

I just left the Wally World on Davis in North Richland Hills and they had a HUGE amount of 9mm. Since they limit you to two boxes, I got two boxes of 250 Remington UMC. Never had a problem with it. Federal 9mm was $9.47 a box of 50. Kinda heavy to carry out, though.

I've purchased all my handguns at Academy, I find their prices are good compared to Carters Country.

Here's my last gun buying experience...

3 minutes filling out the form.
2 minutes for the guy to check it over and fill out his part.
1 minute to pay for the purchase.
20 minutes spent talking to clerk about guns (this part is optional).

In and out in under 30 minutes.

P.S. this was not at Academy and I was not escorted to the parking lot.

I was in the Walmart in Morgan City, LA yesterday (I'm here working on the BP Spill) and as is usual I check the ammo to look for sales. I did find a bunch of Winchester White Box .380 for sale so I picked up some of that. They actually had a pretty good selection of firearms while I was there. Even a Ruger Mini-14. I had never seen one at Walmart before.

I will buy from the big box stores all day long. What do I care if they walk me to the front door? If the price is cheaper that where I'm going to go on generic firearms. I give enough business to the small shops for firearms not commonly found at the box stores in order to say I'm a good customer to both.
