Especially since they refuse to call the real threats TERRORISTS........

Pitchforks...torches....

Ideally...(holds back laughter)....the representatives of the people will be influenced BY the people, however, as it stands now, that concept is pretty much lost due to two major factors.

1. APATHY of "the people".
2. Representatives knowledge of the above.

The majority of the American voting population simply doesn't care about who represents them, OR what it is that those elected actually do. Voter participation numbers makes this fact quite clear. While 50% or so of the American voting population is likely to turn out to vote for a president, LESS than 40% are likely to turn out to vote for a congressman or senator. Congress, contrary to the apparent popular belief, is kind of important. THEY are the ones that create the laws and THEY are the ones that control the purse strings. And yet, this body of government is all but ignored by the citizens. Which leads us to...

Representatives in congress KNOW "the people" don't give a crap, and therefore, DON'T have to answer to "the people", just "their people". When you look at voter turn out, say 30%, and you divide that paltry number by clown party lines, say roughly 50/50, you have a representative of "the people" who only has to answer to 15% of their constituency. As for the rest? WHO CARES THEY DON'T VOTE FOR THEM!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! These idiots KNOW that loyalty to their particular clown party is far more beneficial than any loyalty to "the people".

And the citizens let them get away with it...

IMO, there can be NO positive change in the way our government is operated in its current form, simply because any positive changes MUST stem from the government body in which WE need to change. Congress. Congress will NOT allow these changes to disrupt the current system as it stands now, as it is simply too easily exploitable and profitable.

Our nation, and I would argue our current form of government, reminds me of a boat at sea heading toward an iceberg. You've got a small percentage of passengers watching the course, seeing the iceberg approach, and trying to tell the crew of the vessel they are about to hit an iceberg. You've got another small percentage of passengers who think they won't hit the iceberg, everything will be fine, and the "alarmists" need to quit trying to scare everyone. The rest of the passengers don't care, are at the bar, dancing, or stuffing their face at a buffet line. Meanwhile the crew of the vessel maintain full speed ahead. Unlike the passengers aboard ship, however, we can't simply say "good luck", hop on a life boat, and leave them to their fate. We're stuck on the boat, and about the only thing we can do to keep from hitting that iceberg is to break into the captains bridge and set a new course ourselves.

It's disgusting that Boehner and others can look at what's happening in Greece and vote to take the USA in that direction.

If you confiscated all the wealth of every US millionaire, it would cover 1/6th of our current obligations for Medicare and Social Security. You can raise revenues until there's none left to raise and it won't solve the problem.

This is what happens when a community activist is elected to the highest office in the land. We get the highest number of food stamps being issued in history and suffer the downgrade of our credit rating.

Yeah thats it, poor people its their fault. It has absolutely nothing to do with the unemployment and the financial crisis that started in 08. It has nothing to do with Bush, just a community organizer who wants to see people fed.

Politicians have to accept a lot of the blame for the financial crises. Their policies and laws helped cause many of the problems and made other financial problems worse. Anyone who was in federal office (House, Senate, agency heads and yes POTUS) in 2008 or earlier has to bear the brunt of the blame. They all need to lose their jobs so we can turn the country around.

Bush already lost his job, so let's put that behind us and ficus on getting rid of EVERYONE ELSE who was in office 2007-2010 and replace them with people who have experience balancing a budget in private business, or even balanced a household budget without government handouts or lots of personal debt.

If the current politicians want to see people fed, they can resign and volunteer at a soup kitchen. :thumbs2: :thumbs2:

Even better is donating time and part of their personal fortunes to soup kitchens and other charities. Let's see if they really believe when it's their own money at stake. For most I bet it will be like Al Gore's carbon footprint compared to the hoi polloi.

If those poor people are part of the uneducated youth that elected this community organizer...then yes its their fault. This socialist got a check for almost $1 trillion and absolutrly freaking blew it. We gained absolutely nothing...NOTHING....out of that money. Well....we got our credit rating lowered out of it. Where are all those jobs your boy promised us? Why is his comrade Geithner still there? After all, Geithner vowed just 4 months ago that we would not lose our credit rating.

We'll take that as long as you'll concede that the 08 crisis was caused by Barney Frank and Bill Clinton forcing Fannie and Freddie to give loans to deadbeats and forcing the big banks to buy bad paper. Deal?

Some men you just can't reach [in my best Strother Martin voice].

We've had the two largest increases to the debt limit in the past 18 months. It was not a surprise when the dem congress increased it by almost $2 trillion in early calendar 2010. For the split congress to just increase it around $2.4 trillion, after the 2010 election results, it is quite disappointing.

We are now at total debt to GDP of ~ 100%. Libs want more tax receipts and the "rich" to pay more of their "fair share," but when half of US households pay nothing in federal income tax, you can see through their deceptive and dishonest rhetoric.

OK. Let's keep feeding the poor people. Let's keep borrowing so we can feed the poor people. Eventually, when the country goes bankrupt. what happens to the poor people then? I'll give you a hint. It's not good.
