Once he did, I do not fault him for detaining while investigating. Maybe that is my naivety kicking in, but how many times have we all seen this type of 'detainment" happen - ever watched cops?
Yes they only show the ones that had bad outcomes, but most of the time they tell the potentially bad guy "I am only detaining you for my safety and yours, until we determine what is really going on".

I am assuming this is legally allowed to happen, or they certainly wouldn't show it on ever episode

Yes, happens too many times. "Consent" searches that arent' really happen all the time to. Don't make it right.

Sort of. It don't break the law, just the constitution.

I guess if our president can break the constitution daily, we cannot expect any better from any other government agency, local, state or fed
