Used to see those alot. Stopped seeing them about 5-10 years ago. I've probably signed a thousand of those little slips of paper and I've always, without fail, signed the "Mickey Mouse." My little personal protest, I guess. I've never been asked about the signature in all those times. I think the papers hit the ashcan about 10 seconds after I sign them.

Texas state law does not require that a person over 21 provide any identification to purchase alcohol in Texas.

Seems we are all showing our IDs more than required by law these days.

Simple equation. It has nothing to do with the law, just two parties in a free market making the choice whether to buy or sell.

The restaurant is not required to serve anyone a drink, but can choose to do so. Similarly, we are not required to drink, but if we want to drink, we understand the restaurant has a policy of requiring ID. If we don't want to provide ID, then we don't drink. If we don't like the restaurant's policy, then we are free to choose somewhere else to eat. What's so complicated?
