Exactly. I never served under our flag either. I was young, stupid, and pretty full of myself back in 1970, when I was 1A. I was not drafted, and I never enlisted because I had swallowed liberal ideology, hook, line, and sinker. If I could go back in time and right all the wrongs in my life—of which there are many, and being a punkassed hippie was only one of them—I would do it in a heartbeat. But I can't. All I can do is, from the moment of my "awakening" from the opiate of liberalism circa 1990, has been and continues to be to try and undo the damage that I had a part in, and to do the right thing going forward. I honor the service of those who served, but I refuse to accept that only those who have served have some kind of monopoly on patriotism.sjfcontrol wrote:Usually, perhaps, but not exclusively.speedsix wrote:...it's usually those who've served beneath the flag who appreciate and understand the honor due her the best...

I love my country. There is no other country like her. Despoilers and thieves are doing their level best to crush her. I'm just barely the good side of 60 years old now, and I regrettably cannot make the claim of having served her in uniform; but I will not accept 2nd place today as a lover of my country just because I have an imperfect past. I have no argument with my fellow patriots who did serve. I hope that they have no argument with me because I didn't.
