I never thought of it as chic, but Eddie Bauer makes some nice stuff. I have a nice leather jacket and nylon windbreaker.

Looks to me like an "I am carrying a gun vest" especially with this Texas heat..............

Must be something wrong with me, but for the 67 or so years before I got my CHL, I never once thought "GUN" when seeing someone in a vest or a Hawaiian shirt. I don't think the general public or the BGs have a clue. Could be wrong.

I have proved to myself, countless times, hundreds I dare say over the last few years, the general public is completely unaware of thier surroundings, and dismally un observant of what is or is not under my shirt.. And “security” or on and off duty LEOs’ as well, though they may be more of the “I just don’t care / he don’t look like a bad guy) category I suppose.

The way I carry, on many days, I believe the gun is carried in what passes the legal test of concealed, but an observant person would reasonable know there was something there more than a love handle.

My wife supports the idea of carry, is tempted by the idea of getting her own CHL but dislikes shooting enough that i don't think she'll ever do it. She has a friend that carries that has not made a huge impact on that, so I suspect that it won't change. I took a basic NRA pistol class with her years ago, but it didn't help get her over the hump. She has an XDm9mm that she picked out and I have a .22 Buckmark that she can shoot all she wants, but she rarely does. She is small and often complains that it is painful or hard to rack the semiautos or hurts her thumbs to load the magazine. I bought a maglula mag loader recently but she hasn't wanted to go to the range. I did get her to practice using it at home one time though.

She gets really tense while shooting and has lots of recoil anticipation. I'd prefer she shot the 22 or my 32 revolver a lot so that she could get more comfortable with guns in general, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Every time there's a major crime spree in our area (muggings in parking lots or whatever) her interest renews, but then quickly fades.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up for me too; however, I don't go to big city "cool" places, honky-tonks, schools, concerts or rasslin' matches, etc.

Color me red LOL I guess some things in the south cross state lines. I grew up calling it rasslin'.

My wife has finally gotten used to the fact that I carry at all times; however, we recently had a conversation very much like that of the OP. I had seen an article of the five most stupid things to do for your credit. One of those things is to go on vacation, get a nice room, and then get on Facebook and let the whole world know you are on vacation, and that you have enough money to afford a nice room. Sends out two messages: 1) You are not at your house and, 2) You have enough money to afford a nice room. I told Shannon that she needed to not Facebook like that when we are on vacation. She looked very offended that I would say she should stifle her First Ammendment rights... She said I could not live in a world of paranoia. Now, being called paranoid is a really hard thing to come back from. Hard to find the right words. Anyway, told her it was not paranoia to want to protect your home and investments. She then said the world lives in too much fear, and the fear is propagated by those people wishing to make money off of fear. Well, I just kind of shut up at that point.

Probably the best thing that could happen is for someone to break into one of her friends houses, while they are on vacation, and while advertising that fact on the internet. I honestly do not wish for that to happen to anyone, but that is probably the only way to get her blinders off. I really am fearful that what takes her blinders off will be something that hits much more closer to home...and then I will probably have to really bite my tongue.

Reading these posts makes me appreciate my wife. While she doesn't agree with everything I do as far as my chl she went to the same class and got hers when I did. She carries everyday. I work out of town and she saw that there was a need for protecting the kids as well as herself. She doesn't do as much range time as I would like so she only carries a wheel gun, well two of them, and when she can work a semi as well as I can we will get her what she wants. I am nuts enough to think that if you carry a semi-auto you need to know how to clear it under stress in case Murphy shows up in a gun fight. She now has 4 firearms that are hers. It does my heart good to know she is armed.
