Every range I've ever been to made me join their club before giving me a lane. . . whether the membership was free or not, it was a club. Even Bass Pro has a membership card for the shooting range.

If a free membership is enough of a loophole with UNIC cards to get around alcohol sales in dry areas, it's enough of a loophole for private businesses in this instance.

The case should be dismissed and the plaintiff should have to pay the business' legal expenses.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but this is in the same lines as the range day
Maybe your server will be as smooth as this fella, who added in a few compliments by way of a $0.02 total discount on a customer's receipt for "Best Butt" and "Best Looking."
Is it not OK for this restaurant to give discounts based on appearances then?

I think it is,
Would I like to be one of the recipients of the discounts vs the full price payer, sure, but it is still THEIR BUSINESS to choose how they want manage it
As long as it does not result in excluding one of the protected classes I think it is an interesting and funny tactic. It doesn't appear to do that, so, no foul.
Upon further reflection, the business probably isn't discriminating against anyone, but they could open themselves up to a sexual harassment lawsuit. Yeah, I'm in management in my company and we've been through more than a few courses and lectures regarding covering our backsides from our corporate lawyers.

Were only ladies allowed to use the range on that day or did the ladies get a 100% discount for using the range? If a club or group of people wanted to rent the range for the night for a private event and someone who was not part of the club came and wanted to shoot, would that be discrimination? I don't think so.

The range can cannot discrimate based on age, sex, religion, etc. etc. but they can give a discount to a group of people who have arranged in advance the use of the range for that group and the range set aside time for the "ladies group" to come in an shoot at the discounted rate. Where is the problem?

I don't see any problem with what the range did, the guy sueing is an idiot - IMHO

Flame away, but if the court agrees with this guy, then I would also see where businesses could possibly stop offering any type of discount for any reason to anyone or group.

No flaming here. This is a cold range. Okay, well, fairly cool most of the time and only occasionally a little warm. ;-)

Group discounts are fine unless they are given to only one type of group or one particular group is denied the discount if they ask. And if a group had rented the range, but he had to pay because he was not part of the group that too would be fine, but he probably would not have been admitted if a group rented out the range for a period of time. The group would have paid their rental fee. That wasn't the case here.

The guy is a moron for suing. I agree. If it bothered him that much he should have just asked for his range fee back and left without shooting.

And I guess that no more bars can have ladies nights.

Someone call your congressman!
A Girl and A Gun is covered as a private party, not a ladies night. So in that case, our monthly event is no different than any other private party.

Does the guy really feel discriminated? With this occurring in the anti-2A state of MD, it may be someone just trying to cause trouble.

Like that instructor Crockett Keller or more like an apartment charging Hispanics higher rent than Asians?

I suggest we strike while the iron is hot. Let's do something about all those grubby little crumb crushing rug rats who get discounted rates.

Did the business offer to stop their sexually discriminatory practice? If so, and the offer was rejected, my sympathies as a juror would be heavily on the defendant's side. If not, I would favor the plaintiff if no offer was made to remedy it.

It wouldn't matter to me if the business is a shooting range, a bar or a bank.

I figure he must have felt safe to try it up there because the women there don't shoot as good as the Texas women. ;-)

There's a quick lube place in Tyler that advertises a "Ladies Day Special". Does that bother you, too?

I am old and a veteran and I am offered and accept discounts for both. Are these places discriminating against youngsters and non- veterans? Maybe I can get my children to sue for part of the proceeds! :thumbs2:
