While others report finding 9mm, .40, and .45ACP at Academy and Wal-Mart, I have yet to see any at the local (Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange) stores and do not see any .22LR for sale anywhere except for the online scalpers.
The ammo manufacturers say they are producing around the clock... so where is all the .22LR going?

At Academy's in our area, people are still lining up outside the doors, about 7am to 7:30am waiting for the 8am opening to get the big boxes of .22LR.
When I do into Academy even in the evenings now, however, I do see the small 40 count boxes of .22, limit 2 per person/day.
But if you want to shoot for more than 10 minutes, you need to pick up a 500 ct or even 1400 ct (I have seen a few and gotten a couple)
I have put the time in at Academy for several months, (only probably 20 days of the past 6 months or so), to get skunked at times, and other times, have gotten early enough, or they had enough come in, that I was able to get a bulk box, rather than a mini-box.
like all things you have to put the time in, and be a bit uncomfortable, and get up early, wait patiently in line and see what you get.

I see 9/40/45 at Walmart every time I go now. I'm buying centerfire by the case mail order now so I don't buy at Walmart. I'm still looking for reliable sources of 22 rimfire though. I'm down to 5 or 6 bulk packs, plus the occassional 50/100 round box I stumble upon.

Lets see, 220lbs at 27lbs per 1,000 round.... that's ~ 8,200 rounds. Dang.

I am not sure why someone would need 10000 rds for a semi auto rifle. I know we live in a free market society, but this float on the boorder of absurdity.
Be careful Beiruty, you just fell into the same mind set that lefties often keep themselves in. The "needs" of one person can not be evaluated from the perspective of your lifestyle, or your needs. For most people, 10,000 rounds of .223 might be excessive but for a serious 3 gun competitor, 10K is really no big deal.
As an IDPA shooter, I always try to keep several thousand rounds of components for 9mm on hand. To someone who "plinks" 100 rounds a year, this would seem absurd to have more than 10-20 years of ammo (from their perspective) "stockpiled". From my perspective, 1000 rounds doesn't cover a months worth of shooting.

For 9mm I am now at 1200rd. Each match at DPC is 150 to 180rds. So I am stocked for 7 or 8 matches or up to 5 months of biweekly matches.
