For me it depends on the situation and the gun I am carrying (revolver or 1911). We may not always have the opportunity to fight our way back to a vehicle, bedroom, etc so carrying a reload (I'll just call it that because I carry either a revolver or a 1911 right now) is always a good idea. If I'm around the house I may not worry about carrying an extra reload but that depends on that time of day. But pretty much anywhere else I will always carry an extra reload. I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I always carry a spare mag. One in case there is a malfunction, but it gives me 27 rounds. There are times it will carry a second spare for a total of 40 rounds
