Charles L. Cotton wrote:"Scores" of CHL's in trouble? Interesting claim since only 120 CHLs were convicted of anything in 2012 (last data published) in the entire State.

Chas.
Well, 120 is "six score" which would be a multiple of "score" but the use of "scores" makes an implication and makes it sound like one of those tv ads where "thousands have used . . ." and it turns out that they mean a whole two thousand.

When I was a kid my grandpappy taught me that "a couple" was two, "A few" was three, and more than that was "many" and I have stuck to those descriptors ever since and it bugs me when others misuse them. Of course Grandpap had other colorful descriptors, "a bunch" being more than ten, "a whole bunch" being more than twenty, and so on.

Back on topic.

Although they are not necessarily in insurance company, these days just about anyone can call a subscription protection plan "insurance" in the broad meaning of the term, and just like most insurance companies they are going to be profitable by primarily insuring those who are at a low risk for the risk being covered. CHL holders are less likely to be arrested and need [pre-paid legal] than any other demographic, so getting us to sign up for a plan that covers those "OH NO!" moments when we act inappropriately or just lose our minds is a good risk for them, and they can probably get away with calling it "insurance" the same way I call my guns and fire extinguishers insurance.

My late wife was an "insurance professional" and the thoughts she expressed on insurance, and especially insurance salesmen, were not always fit for public consumption. Although these guys will tell you they are looking out for your best interest, their eyes are always on that bottom line.

ACLDN does have a verifiable track record....
Can you point to more events other than the one they list on their site?

Of course they are going to look at the low risk of CHL holders arrested and charge enough in memberships so they make money. Anyone who starts a business that resulted in more money going out than coming in is a fool. That is why insurance companies don't like to insure drivers who get in accidents or have DWI convictions.

These guys are lawyers and they are not fools. They are very careful in the way they wrote the contract and purposely didn't use the word insurance to describe their services.

Nothing against your late wife's vocation, but sometimes insurance salesmen are lumped into the same category as "used car salesmen."

:iagree:
Insurance is such a racket. I've never had a homeowners claim and still my premium goes up significantly every year.

Insurance rates are based on everyone else's claims. One of the major problems we have are those people who turn in every little thing to insurance. This drives all the rates up as we have to pay into the pot to keep the companies base stable.

However, I sometimes wonder if we aren't getting taken to the claeners anyway if State Farm can afford to build their new campus in Richardson. I work close to here and it amazes me what they are putting in there.

State Farm has more money than the U.S. government. I know I have given them thousands of dollars over the years. :patriot:

And she did - she drew a distinction between types of "salesmen" and called some of them "The Blue Suede Shoe Boys" not that it stopped her from dating a few of them. :eek6

I don't go as much by their website as I do the incidents relayed by Marty Hayes, Massad Ayoob, and others who talk about ACLDN in various publications and TV shows. More info than I've heard from [pre-paid legal].

Are those compensated endorsements?

Not on their interviews on shows like SHOOTING GALLERY, GUNS & GEAR, & other shooting shows.

Let me rephrase my question, do they receive any compensation from ACLDN? Unless they specifically state that they don't when they mention their services my bet is they are getting paid.

I'm sure they are paid for their work for ACLDN as attorneys (Hayes) and expert witnesses (Ayoob). As for being paid to endorse the product.....that I don't know for certain.

If they receive compensation at all (which appearently they do), I would place little value in their endorsement.
