What about eating a cheeseburger with fries, putting on makeup, reading the paper, adjusting the radio, etc.?

Enforce existing driving laws and the rest takes care of itself. I've found that the people who complain the most about cell phone use while driving are usually the worst drivers out there.

What about eating a cheeseburger with fries, putting on makeup, reading the paper, adjusting the radio, etc.?

I don't eat cheeseburgers or fries while driving. I get more on me than in my mouth. I don't wear makeup, so... I don't
read the paper while driving. But, When traveling, and my wife is riding shotgun we will work a crossword. She reads the
clues and writes....I just talk. Radio? XM or sports talk; set and forget. Besides, I can change radio channel settings without
looking.
My main problem with texting while driving is the inattention it causes. Hands free devices are the
only way to go. I personally have seen 2 rear end collisions caused from head-down texting. Thankfully
there were no physical injuries, only damaged vehicles. I've read of several instances of riders being
killed by texting drivers. Even hands free devices divide your attention. But just short of outlawing device use
while driving they are the next best thing. (that said, I am for LESS laws, LESS nanny state, LESS goobernment).
I lose count how many times a day I see someone impeding traffic because they have a mobile phone stuck to their ear
and are chatting away, while traffic is stacked up behind them and cars are passing on both sides. I think it's
inconsiderate to other drivers, rude and dangerous. Use the hands free to chat while driving. Pull over to answer that
all important text message of "what's up?". Or wait to answer later. Wall Street will still be there. The sky won't be falling.

p.s. seriously, I am SO glad it's raining.

You responded as if I asked what you do or don't do. I actually asked if you think the activities I mentioned should also be against the law and criminal as you believe texting and handheld phone use should be.

I believe those activities are just as distracting but I see all of them almost every time I head into San Antonio or Houston.

I think they need to ban babies and toddlers in cars, oh, skip that, just ban all kids, way too distracting. IF I were to text while driving I would probably be much safer than I was when my kids were little "Mommmmm, he touched me!"

I'd be willing to bet that the percentage of people texting while driving that actually get into an accident is probably pretty close to the percentage of gun owners that have accidents with their guns. Of course it would be difficult to prove as it's almost impossible to determine how many people text and drive.

It's been twenty years or more since my last visit to Maypearl.
It was barely a spot on the map back then.
