Sorry it's taken so long to answer as I've not visited this thread for a while.

To answer your question: I have a large folding outdoor chair that came stored in a long, round bag. The carbine fits in the bag with room to spare. I will keep the carbine in it and lay it on the floor of the back seat.

I'm looking for an inexpensive ready built AR-15, maybe like a Delton Sport to keep in my truck, but that''ll have to wait. I'll have to wait until after Christmas, though. I already carry a 20 inch (JC Higgins/High Standard Flite King) 12 Ga pump that I picked up for cheap in a garage sale. It shoots and patterns as well as my Winchester Defender, but @ 60 bucks won't be a great loss should someone steal my truck.

Got a few stripped lowers the other day, have a 10.5" PSA upper assembly, gonna build my trunk pistol (but it will stay in my toolbox).
Just need an LPK, pistol buffer and pistol brace. Gonna throw a Primary Arms red dot on it, backup magpul rear sight, and duct tape a cheap flashlight to the plastic handguard. As cheap and efficient as possible.
Really wish I had an 11.5 or 12" upper, but 10.5" is what I already have.

I don't think I've ever seen an M1 Carbine that nice and how cool is it to have the 1911 carried into battle? Sure makes his sacrifice real.

That's a nice carbine to be sure. I had one I bought in the late 60's that had perfect Parkerizing and a varnished stock. I think it must have been a parade or ceremonial gun. It along with most of my guns was stolen in 1995. I had put a folding stock on it so i still have the varnished one. LOL

I keep a Winchester 30-30 behind the back seat of my truck in a cheap gun bag. I have it secured with a padlock to the child seat mounts on the back wall of the cab. I can get it out and ready to go in about 20 - 30 seconds from being in the front seat to having it ready to go. It's not a fancy AR but it's a rifle I had sitting in the safe forever and it's not worth a whole lot of money. I figure I'm more likely to use it on a hog or deer at the ranch than on a threat and I didn't want to have an AR, AK, or other tactical rifle just because they are expensive and should it ever get stolen I wouldn't want to put one in to the hands of a criminal. I imagine if things went real bad I could at least defend myself with it if need be until the police arrived. When they did I wouldn't be holding so much of a "scary" gun.

I also keep Winchester 30-30 ,mossberg 22 along with 410 snake shotgun with lots of OOO buckshot shells. They are my least expensive guns and but are very useful. The 410 is short enough to be swung are inside the 4 door Chevy and 5 OOO Pellets are awesome. They are also less scary looking if something does happen and the LEO are called.

Honestly, I think both of you guys are being smart about it. A .30-30 cartridge is the rough ballistic equivalent of a 7.62x39mm AK cartridge, and it has sufficient range and power to deal with most "something arises" situations you are likely to run into. Unless you have a full-length magazine tube, your going to suffer in capacity somewhat, particularly compared to an AR/AK, but they reload quickly, and its a rifle for crying out loud. It ought to scare the bejabbers out of whomever you point it at. And like both of you pointed out, it's not an "evil black rifle" when the cops arrive.

Heck, it they're good enough for Longmire, they ought to be good enough for me. The only problem for me is that I live in a suburban environment, and I drive a mid-sized SUV (2015 4Runner). I don't have a trunk. I have factory-tinted rear windows and a retractable cover to hide the contents of the rear cargo area, but to my mind, when that is deployed, it shouts to anyone looking in the back window that there is something valuable hidden there that I don't want stolen.......in other words, it invites a break in. So it seems like my goal is to find a way of packaging a long gun in such a way as to either not make it a temptation, or to make it blend with the rest of the interior, like seat backs, etc. My car has a black interior, so I'm thinking that the black LaRue tactical bag I posted previously might be a way to do that.

Off and on, but mainly on lately.

I sort of miss the old bench seats they used to put in pickups. You could get seat covers that had a rifle scabbard on the front of the seat, just below your knees.

You weren't going to get to the rifle without getting out of the truck, but all you had to do was step down, reach into the scabbard and draw the rifle out.

My father kept his scoped Marlin 30.30 in his '73 Ranger XLT Lariat that way. It came in handy for dealing with dogs and yotes that were bothering the cattle.

Not so much a truck/trunk gun because it goes with me and doesn't stay in the car, but this is a handy bag for traveling when I'm driving/staying away from home. If things got really bad I could also carry it in/out of an office setting without too much suspicion. 16" wide and looks like a laptop bag.







And if I wanted something rifle sized, this might raise more eyebrows than a laptop bag, but still less than a rifle case would....

I am opposed to the idea of a truck gun. Especially in the role of a terrorist attack.

If you are in an attack its already to late for your truck gun.
If you can make it to your truck gun, assuming your car operates, and your vehicle is not blocked in, you should flee. You owe it to your family to do so
Of course if you made it out of the killzone and your family did not by all means go back for them. Risk of being misidentified by police is too high as time goes on. I like that MP5 pistol though. Immediate access, effective rounds depending on ammo load, controllable recoil.

I saw this and thought it was cool, but then I realized attackers always have the initiative. They get to decide the place and the time and they don't usually give you time to prepare

Yep, I don't carry it to be a hero, I carry it since it is superior to a handgun.
