I want it on the record we can't be friends. I was all good with looking at lowly STI's until you posted a link that black v-bob.
I might have to cut the Internet off to keep me from ordering one of those. I just really like the thought of an All Texas 1911 over sending money to New York. The STI is still in the lead, plus about $500 or so less.
My work here is done!
I have the stainless V-Bob (my avatar) and the Guardian. To be brutally, painfully honest, I like shooting the Guardian better. I don't know why. AndyC shot both of mine and made the same observation.

Thanks for all the input. Trying to find a shop that carries the STI to take a look at. BTW, that Black V-Bob is gorgeous.

I really like the Dan Wesson line, but I don't like the bobbed grip. I know it prints less, but when I old it it feels like part of the grip is missing. Another issue is that the selection of aftermarket grips for this style is limited.

So do you have the Gaurdian? Or the infamous (G-Bob) version?
Do you carry the V-Bob at all? How is the wear on that coating?
I need to find someone local with a bobbed 1911 to shoot before buying one, I might not like the "feel" of it enough to offset the small advantage for concealment.
The STI Lawman is the one I am looking at. I have friends with feelers out in case any of these recently laid off Shale hands need to part with a toy. As doubtful as it is I will find an STI used, finding the DW is akin to a mythical creature in another world.

They also have two Commanders that are not bobbed... The Valkyrie Commander and the Valor Commander.

(That should blow your argument out of the water.

As I said, I have the Guardian .45. Look at the picture I posted back on page two of this thread. You can see where it says "Guardian" on the slide.
I never heard of a "G-Bob". I've heard of the "C-Bob" which was replaced by the V-Bob, more or less. The last I knew, the C-Bob was still being made for California only.
I carried my stainless V-Bob for about 6 months and it does have a few marks. The stainless does not have any coating. The stainless steel has been bead blasted to a satin sheen and left bare.
The Guardian has the same "Duty Treatment" as the black V-Bob. It is supposed to be nearly impervious to scratches and I'm a believer. I carried my Guardian for about a year and it looks like it's never been in a holster.
Where is "local" to you?

I like a commander length pistol (and that is what I carry), lots of choices out there.
My preference would be a Springfield over the Kimber though I have owned both in the past and each are good products.
But.... I must joint 'Excaliber' in suggesting the STI if your budget will allow or if you are willing to save for awhile, they are clearly a jump up in quality for not much more.
Anyway that is my .06 worth (adjusted for inflation).

On another forum I read of the Gaurdian with a bob being referred tongue in cheek as a G-bob. But it might have been a custom made or discontinued version. Crazy enough the STI have a Gaurdian so I was doubting my own sanity for a minute.
The "Duty Treatment" was what I meant, had your two mixed up. I wondered if it held up to be worthy of the $4-500 premium they get.
Houston area is local for me. Thanks for the responses.

And the STI Guardian is a true gem, if you ever had a chance to shoot it! (It's an officer's frame, if that matters.) I love mine- and wouldn't trade it for the 2X the cost I have in it!

Is "flechero" Satan in some other language? LOL. Seriously. I am watching a STI Guardian on gunbroker now. That tri color is gorgeous. Get out of my dome !!!!!!
On the other hand I just ordered another Bullard for my SR1911. Going with a Bodyguard lined with scroll work this time. Already use a Dual Carry and love the cant they have.

I don't know when, but I'm planning on sending my stainless V-Bob back to DW to have the Duty Treatment added. How's that for answering your question?
This thread will give you an idea how tough it is:

If you ever make it up to the Dallas area, maybe we can meet up and I'll let you shoot them.

I'm leaning towards an STI Guardian out of the STI line up. What holster(s) do you use?

casp625,
I know this was directed more towards that Evil flechero, but I use DM Bullard holsters for my 1911. I have used the Dual Carry for a couple years now, but only on the OWB application. I just ordered a Bodyguard with scroll on the border, should see it in a month or so.
Fine craftsmanship and Texas maker. Always a win-win in my book. They do hit the North Texas gun show circuit I think, so if your in the area you can probably meet the owners.

For the 1911's I have a handful, but my 2 favorite CC holsters at the moment are-
Milt Sparks Nexus
JW Custom Kydex - version 3 IWB (25degrees and "extra tuck" which holds the grip tighter to the body
I don't own any Bullard leather but I've only hear great things over the years from those who do.
