^^^^^^^^^^ Yeah, I told Chris about a month ago....he was a big LOSER!SIRIT wrote:QUITTER!!!The Annoyed Man wrote:Buncha junkies! Yesterday, I stepped out of a Walgreen's and there was a little girl there with her mom, and her cookie boxes set up on a table right there outside the door. The girl got out one word... "Sir...?" I held out my hand, palm outward, and said "NO!" .......and then I turned to her mom and laughed, apologized, and said that I am down just shy of 90 lbs since last March, and I can't eat just one cookie anymore than you can eat just one potato chip, and the LAST thing I needed was to open a box of those. She and the girl smiled and laughed, and wished me good luck on my continued weight loss.WildBill wrote:Weg wrote:Not wanting to start a fight, but he Thin mints are way better... just sayin.SIRIT wrote:Only Solicitors I ever will talk to are the Girl Scouts because those peanut butter patties are just to dang good! They probably have me for about $75 over the last 2 weeks alone. I have found that three peanut butter pattie cookies chased by one shortbread is the perfect snack. And with my lack of self control I end up having about 20 snacks a day.![]()

That's how I do it also, day or night if we don't recognize someone at our door we don't answer it.remington79 wrote:If I don't recognize you I don't answer the door. Same thing with the phone if I don't recognize the number I don't answer it. If it's important they'll leave a message.

They did answer my email, they never give permission. Also said they had no way to stop it since our streets are open to the public. Her suggestion was not to purchase anything from them.jmra wrote:If the officers of your HOA give anyone permission to solicitatate, you need new officers.
On a side note I did stop a guy from breaking into a neighbors house some years ago, did not have my firearm with me so I retreated to my house to give a good description to the sheriff department (they took about one hour to respond). That was the last time I went out without my firearm.

Did you tell them about the No Solicitation Ordinance?striker55 wrote:They did answer my email, they never give permission. They can also send out a bulletin in the mail and talk about it at the HOA meeting.
My HOA has a security service that routinely patrols the area.
If they spot solicitors they will report them.

Count me in on the phone - I let my answering machine screen every call. It's heartwarming not to answer, crusty, curmudgeon that I am.
As for in person solicitors, they're not a problem.
I live in the country with a completely fenced in yard with a 36' (well, 2 -18' gates that swing together to make it 36') plus a long driveway.
No one EVER breeches my gate unless invited.
Before the fence and gate were installed, I had only one stranger come to my door in ten years of living here and he performed a quick about face when he seemed to understand why one of my hands was held behind my back... I do think he was very likely a criminal trying to interview me with an unlikely song and dance about his missing dog. He saw my unblinking response to his very unbelievable stuttering, amateurish, artless story line.
