if you supplied the appropriate documentation and you are legal to carry, then it should be no longer than anyone else. Of course this is just a guess, but I think its also reasonable.

We have all been there!
If yours runs like mine (and you are right, a bit of a fingerprint delay)
Your application should change to "Processing" about May 15th or so.
Then with the delay on fingerprinting, if all is approved in the end, with no other required documentation, June 5 to June 10 you should be approved.
Again, all things being equal and adding 6 to 11 days for the fingerprint delay.

Talked to dps and the only issue was that they were confused by my residence history. Think it's cleared up now. They'll probably just go ahead and issue my plastic so I'll leave them alone for 4 years !

Straight out of the Administrative Rules .pdf on the TXDPS site:
RULE ยง6.12: Basic Information to be Submitted with Application
In addition to the information required by the Act, an application must contain all the following items:
(1) Proficiency certificate. The applicant must submit a handgun proficiency certificate (TR 100) issued upon successful completion of a handgun proficiency course approved by the department and taught by a certified handgun instructor. A proficiency certificate submitted by an original applicant will not be accepted by the department if it is more than two years old. A proficiency certificate submitted by a renewal applicant will not be accepted by the department if it is more than six months old.
I've heard a lot of different stories about how long your initial certification is good for in regards to submitting it to TXDPS, so I got the answer before putting in my application. I just hope there's no snags processing my app! :D

Has anyone tried to check their status yet this morning? The link is in a different place
http://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/txapp/txdps/chl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and when I click "Login" under returning users, it only asks for DL #, SSN and DOB. When I enter that information, it takes me to a new screen that says Choose Service. The only link I can choose is to "Apply for your instructor certificate". Someone on another board said it gave him more information that the old system (ie, his is still in background check), but it gave me NO information at all. I guess it's because my status yesterday was "Packet mailed to applicant" and that means that although they have received my packet, they have done nothing with it yet??? I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else is getting the same non-information I'm getting...

i tried it alittle while ago and it could not find any info. They only recieved my packet just over a week ago so It might not be loaded into the system yet. I guess I will give a few days before I start freaking out.

Looks like your packet and mine were received at the same time, but I started mine online, so I am at least in the system.

Wow! It looks like they added more categories of an application in process!
Can you list all the categories that are now available?
