It's the TZ99 Semi-Auto 9mm Pistol. A clone of the Sig 226.

It was originally developed in Yugoslavia as the CZ99. The manufacturer eventually struck a deal with the South African firm of Tressitu, who began producing the TZ99. Tressitu folded after a limited run of these, so there's not too many of them out there.

I wonder why they decided on using this rather than the Sig? More rare? Less expensive? I'm curious to know if ZZ shares the Sigs reputation for reliability.

Thanks USA1! :tiphat:

Perhaps it has a 10-round mag that makes it Kalifornia legal? I'm still trying to determine if they're using anything "hi-cap" on this show, since it's apparently filmed in the Peoples Republic. The AR-15s last night had 7 rounds for the main challenge, but did any of them fire more than 10 rounds from a single mag during the practice rounds?

Interesting...hadn't considered that aspect of the show.

It would be a more honest test if all of the contestants competed with each time of weapon and the top scorer won - this "let's vote this guy off" "I'm the king of the hill" stuff is just too juvenile for my tastes. I don't watch the other survivor shows either.
:iagree:

But despite my misgivings, I'm still watching and supporting the show because on the whole it depicts gun ownership and use in a better way than almost anything else on mainstream television. The average TV watcher these days apparently likes the whole "vote-em-off-the-island" rules and the ensuing petty bickering and artificial drama. They've come to expect it. So this show has to deliver a bit of that to draw in the "realty TV" crowd, I guess.

If it gets some latent gun owners or even true undecideds off the fence and into the pro-RKBA side, then I can look past the banality of the Survivor-style garbage.

OK, last night's show was ridiculous. If this stupid realty TV style infighting continues, I won't make it til the end of the season. They were shooting KENTUCKY RIFLES for crying out loud!!! How about some extended HISTORY about the rifle that won the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and conquered much of the early American frontier?????? Instead we get extended outtakes of petty bickering on one team that takes up the majority of the show. The actual shooting seems an afterthought as each team fires only four shots with the flintlock rifles. The overbearing foreshadowing of the "elimination challenge" (was there any doubt the two idiots who kept jawing at each other the entire episode would be voted into the elimination?) made me wish both could be voted off the island. But the actual elimination challenge - shooting a rope holding a guillotine with 1873 Winchester rifles - was very cool.

This show needs to concentrate on the shooting more and the realty TV junk much less. They missed some golden opportunities for more discussion of these two iconic American rifles. For instance, I'd like to know more about why the Kentucky rifle kept failing to fire? They had a term for it and I don't even remember the term now because the bickering overshadowed the interesting history.

I had thought everyone had lost interest in this show cause I hadn't seen any posts on it lately. I think the bickering is to keep the show entertaining for the folks that just watch it for entertainment and not for the shooting abilities. Maybe it will get non-shooters interested enough in the sport to try it. They do have some good challenges. I agree with AR could be a bit more info on the weapons used and the '"history" of each weapon. My favorite shooter so far is Kelly. I record the show so I haven't viewed the latest episode yet. :fire

I really enjoyed the latest episode. Best one yet IMO. Less bickering and more shooting.

The show was entirely devoted to the Colt Peace Maker...

There was an "Old West" shooting gallery set up for the contestants to test their abilities with speed and accuracy.
Lots of bottles, jars, lanterns and such to shoot in the shortest amount of time.

The elimination round was focused on accuracy. The shooters played a game of Poker by shooting cards.

I won't say who was eliminated and spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. ;-)

I wouldn't want to be in a shooting competition against, well, anyone on the show. But I would trip all over myself to get in a poker game with either of those two.

I liked the advice given to Kelly about using his thumb on his support hand to prevent pulling left, it seemed to have worked.

As far as being bothered about the reality TV theme, well, there's plenty of those other shows already on the History Channel and the Outdoor Channel, those get awful boring. Experts shooting faster and more accurate than I'll ever hope to get. I'd like to see a show where run of the mill shooters get a chance at some big bucks. What ever happened to that show that Ted Nugent put on? Not Spirit of the Wild, the reality TV one.

I actually liked Kelly's poker strategy, he explained it well. When he saw that his opponent, Andre, was going for a low straight flush, and Kelly missed his first shot, he blocked Andre and went for 4 of a kind. That was perfect considering how it played out.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
