That "point" wasn't mentioned by the first poster who brought up Exxon, nor by the MSM over the last few years. I agree the subsidies and tax breaks need to go away, but they have been accused of "price gouging" and ripping off the public, and their "profits" used as the source of "proof.". That was the part I was addressing. BTW, the oil companies are not the only ones raking in huge profits getting gov't subsidies and tax breaks.

The "point" is that those who are disgusted by a company making billions in profits probably also don't think you deserve whatever income you get.

They don't care about the AMOUNT, only that they don't have their grubby little paws on it.

Its the same thing as limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds. Who says 10? Why 10? Why not 8? or 5? or 2? Those who aren't happy with others getting "billions" won't be happy with you getting thousands if they don't get "their share".

Once you've accepted the idea that someone has the right to determine how many rounds your magazine can have, or how much money you can have before you need to start getting taxed more, you've already lost. It's not a question of quantity, its a question of right and wrong.

And yes, subsidies need to go away.

I said nothing that should of made anyone think I had something agents companies making billions in profit, I applaud them, their success means they are doing something right. While I have heard a few on the left accuse them of price gouging and to a more extreme extent I have head a few call for the nationalization of the oil companies, I just want to get rid of wasteful spending. And the billions the oil companies get some not even American owned, is a huge wast in a time like this where cuts need to be made.I simply made the point that while raking in those billions they also had their hand in OUR collective pocket courtesy of Uncle Sam.

Did what they get from us outweigh the 9.8 billion in taxes they paid last year? If not, seems like a better investment than the one we made in Government Motors.....

This has strayed a long way from the subject, so I'm going to start a new thread entitled, "Should companies pay taxes?"

The tax breaks that are use to villify them, are to allow them to expense the costs of drilling and exploration in the year in which they occur, rather than amortize them over the life of the well.
That's how the tax code is written and it is reasonable, I believe. Maybe that will be changed. I don't know.
Any legal and legitimate tax deduction can be called a subsidy which implies evil intent if the political winds blow that way.
And right now they most certainly are.
The interest and property tax deduction on our homes is a huge subsidy supporting the housing industry.
It is worth hundreds of billions of dollars per year.
Wind, solar, high speed rail and electric cars are all receiving more tax breaks and subsidies than oil companies.
The all encompassing term of tax break is seen as a benefit to the large producers, which it is.
But it is also a benefit to small producers, many of which are also here in Texas and help to fuel the local economy.

By that reasoning, since nobody's been able to get hold of his college transcripts, the only logical conclusion is that he didn't go to college.

Obama fueled this conspiracy by refusing to release his birth certificate long ago and resisting, to the tune of millions of dollars, attempts to get it released.

Personally I could care less where he was born. He's a Marxist, and he never should have been the Democratic nominee, much less the President of the United States. But a reasonable person must admit that his constant expensive efforts to hide his past are at least odd, if not downright curious.

I personally think he does it because he enjoys prodding the real nuts on both sides of the aisle....
Louie agrees with you. Looks like he's thrown in the towel too...

Before you go throwing stones at publicly-traded corporations showing "excessive" profits, check the mutual funds in your 401k or IRA, and see if it''s not YOU who are reaping those profits.

The most important thing to note is the birth certificate should never of been an issue, I would like anyone to point out another president that had to deal with an issue like this. I hate to say it and I do not take the words lightly but the only reason I see that could explain it is that he is black. Like I said there are many valid reasons not to like Obama, choosing this one makes you look like an idiot.

Let's try something back on topic.. ok?

I think people are completely missing the target on the birther/birth certificate issue.

I'm wondering.... On how many documents did our President himself proclaim he was some form of "not American"? Public school registrations? University applications? Student loans? Law school? ....

I don't need the birther issue to dislike this Socialist, anti-American.... But I blame all the people who voted for him more than I blame the man himself.. Hopefully we can fix this mess next year.

I'm sorry, I thought this post was about a birth certificate, but someone seems to have made it into an oil company post.

More than you'll ever want to know about a birth certificate...
