Called and the lady said "Got it" - meaning she understood when I said I was calling in support of HB 1937 - but did not mention that it was dead unless attached to another bill (which I would have realized if I thought about it - bill was withdrawn).

Still, doesn't hurt to pick up the phone... I got a sense that she'd had so many people calling in support of HB 1937 that she was tired of explaining, and just noted "Got it".

I was referencing the myth that Texas can, without any resistance from the Fed Govt, secede because we entered the union as a sovereign nation, so we can leave as one. There are people who legitimately believe this to be true, when it is not.

Shutting down the airports would have far reaching consequences for the nation and world.

Texas GDP is almost 10% of the US. Texas alone, ranks 13th among nations falling just after Spain, but ahead of Australia.

TSA is blowing smoke. Just wish we had a legislator willing to say "nuts."

That was my first thought when I heard about this too...

Unfortunately we blinked.

It'll be fun to see what happens to AA and Continental/United's stock if Dallas and Houston are shut down. Then, it'll be fun to see what happens to the stock markets. Then, it'll be really fun to see what Obama does.

They should have told the TSA "Leave, don't come back, we will handle it."

And told the feds if they try to shut down the airports, there will be a lot of feds in Texas Jails.

Totally hypothetical, but Obama would probably tell those airlines to relocate to other states and forget about Texas. I'm not sure if he'd beat them with a stick (threaten them with fines, jail, etc.) or use a carrot (give them bailout moneys, etc.) to make them move.

FWIW, Continental is already in his back yard. It's now "United" and HQ'd in Chicago.
The Houston office is shrinking over the next couple of years. Most execs are moving north if they keep their job at all.

My point was that Texas does not need the US Governments permission to leave the union. Personally, I'm not sure whether the US Gubmint would try to stop Texas with force or not, but if the citizens of Texas decided to make the move, then I'm not sure it would practically matter much whether it was legal or not. Call me cynical, but I don't think our Federal gubmint much cares about the laws that are supposed to restrict their actions.

Wasn't it tried circa 1861-1865...and didn't work out too well.

And what would he do about the companies that are dependent on TI semiconductors when they can't get a tech onsite without waiting from one to drive there? Or the next time somebody needs a well control specialist right now and has to wait because he can't fly to their gusher?
