Only could stay for about an hour after the hour it took me just to get around the MLK march that the police had to block all the streets off for. Didn't really talk to anybody(I was the young guy standing all by his lonesome lol). From what I saw there was about 100+ guys/gals out to show there support and a few guns went up for sale to the highest bidder. A couple people from the press were walking around taking picture/video and talking to a few people, hopefully they give an unbias report on the event.

I hope a lot more people showed up after I left! Someone post some pictures, from what i saw there was a lot being taken.

Had about 250 people at our rally (VA). Which was amazing because there was no state group sponsoring it. Their day is on Monday. Yours truly made headlines in an interview for the capitals newspaper. It came across fairly well.

I see my son in the gray sweatshirt near the back of the crowd on the left side of the picture, and the guy who is standing behind him in the orange shirt, closest to the camera on the left, is the elderly gentleman who collapsed at the end of the 2nd speech.

I don't see myself in the photo, so I must have been talking to you while you took the picture.

Anyway, I think it was a successful event. It wasn't a gigantic turnout, but I'm guessing we had a total of 50 or 60 folks at a time there during most of it. It seems like maybe 15-20 guns or more got sold. Given that it was organized mere days before the event and operated on a shoestring budget, I think it was very successful.

I had a chance to meet jotus and a couple of others for the first time. Of course, AndyC was there and we go back a little ways. The speakers were excellent, and it was encouraging to me specifically to see such outspoken support for the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment from the ranks of African-American clergymen. It further cemented my belief that conservatism/libertarianism is truly the only post-racial movement in the country, whereas liberals use racism to divide us as Americans

The contact between potential buyers and those whom we were successful in diverting to our gathering was nothing if not friendly and respectful. Those who sold their guns on our side of the street were all applauded and thanked for allowing our group to rescue their guns.

There was one lady from the church buy-back folks who kept running up to potential buyers and telling them that our group was trying to buy guns to "sell them back onto the streets," which of course was a blatant lie. She did not represent her church or her Lord very well......unless she serves the king of lies. Our group deliberately refrained from any kind of confrontational behavior. And as I am typing this, I just saw myself on TV! LOL.

Just saw the Fox News coverage on channel 4. Couldn't have been more negatively reported. :grumble

Actually, the CBS local's report was fairly unbiased.

Thanks to jotus for setting this up and to all who showed up yesterday. We don't have exact numbers on attendance or the actual number of guns rescued (all sales were between private parties), but we believe approximately 45 guns were rescued from the crusher/cutter. It was definitely a success, especially considering we only had 3 days to set it up and get the information out. Most of the people I spoke with who came and were not associated with this forum had just heard about it in the last 24 hours prior to the event.

The media coverage wasn't what I hoped, but it was better than I expected. I watched Fox and NBC and recorded both ABC and CBS. I especially wasn't thrilled with Fox's coverage. The lead into the story eluded to something about a confrontation, but the reporter at the scene did not mention it. Bud Gillette of CBS ran the best, most factually honest report about the event.

It was a real pleasure to finally get an opportunity to meet some members from the forum. For those members who came but I did not meet personally, I'll make sure I give a decent description so you can find me the next time, and there will be a next time. No definitive plans yet, but we are working on them.
